I have watched some of these bouts and was wondering when you were going to post them. This is right up your alley. It's another example that when one trains tcma for sanda all the arts end up looking the same. The wing chun fighters look nothing like wing chun. What are they training?

By watching the fights how would one know what art they practice if not told beforehand?

It's all just kickboxing, no Taiji or anything else.

S.A.I.D. (Specific Adaptation to Imposed Demands)

If you want to use your art with gloves and under that ruleset, one must train their art with gloves under that ruleset. If there is a method that works better across the board under that specific set of rules, then one will tend to abandon the trained art/method under that ruleset in the interest of self preservation. In essence it is very simple:

We generally respond with what we trust the most when the crap hits the fan. How we train is much more important than the volume of training alone.

Can anyone post a video of someone who uses these art in a "real" scenario and how they can tell what art they practice?
I haven't seen any "real" tai chi internal videos. Why shouldn't the art look like kick boxing + boxing with grappling with gloves on? you punch kick and throw people.

A lot of criticism but if you can't use your art succesfully in a setting like this what makes you think you can use it in a "real " situation.

If that's the case, then we should all just train kick boxing - no more need for the traditional arts. I still contend that success in the octagon is no measure of a person's ability to defend himself.

That's not the point, the point is that it's extremely valuable to test your skills in competition. It's something that you can learn a lot from and it will push your martial art and training to another level. Of course when you join a kickboxing tournament with kick boxing rules it looks like kick boxing. The criticism about these arts not looking like what they are supposed to is unwarranted. The chaotic nature of a fight means your fighting will probably look nothing like your forms.

Edit:

Really...? Do you truly believe it's absolutely no measure? I think it's a better measure than most...

Because, when it comes to real fighting, it ultimately looks like boxing. :D

I agree with you. Ron's statement does not make sense, to me. In the octagon, a fighter has to defend himself against being KO'd, punched, kicked, thrown, submitted, etc. How is that "no measure" of a person's ability to defend themselves?
