ya I guess he doesn't know to much considering

"Grandmaster C.K. Chu (1937-2013) was one of the great tai chi masters of the twentieth century. When tai chi was new in the United States, his students defeated other martial art stylists to win championships. His books were among the first books published about tai chi in English. And his Book of Nei Kung was the first book published on the topic ever. Over 40 years of teaching Taoist arts in Times Square, Master Chu touched thousands of lives for the better."

they didnt push hands with others, they defeated them.... ;)

Born in 1937 in Hong Kong, Chu was educated in martial arts and calligraphy as a child. He studied: Northern Shao Lin from Master See; Fut Ga (Buddha Fist) from Master Lee; Cheng Wing-Gung's Wu style Tai Chi; Yang style from Master Chan a student of Yang Cheng-fu and Tung Ying-jeh; and Judo from Gom Jen (Golden Well), a Japanese Master. Chu has never claimed to be a lineage bearer.

He came to New York in the 1960s for college and graduate studies. He earned a masters degree in physics from Queens College and completed graduate work for a Ph.D. (ABD). Chu always said he began teaching Tai Chi to further his own training. He studied with Master William C.C. Chen and assisted teaching at his school; and he took classes at the Judo Center in the East 70's.

By 1970, he was teaching Tai Chi both at Aaron Bank's Karate Academy and Hank Kraft's Judo School in Queens. Finding he had students he opened his own school in 1973. On typical weekdays in the 1980s he would leave a full day of teaching at Brooklyn Tech to open the Times Square studio for four hours of classes starting at 4:30 PM, to arrive home by 10PM.

Grandmaster C.K. Chu, one of the great Tai Chi masters of the twentieth century, died at New York Presbyterian Hospital Saturday, October 12th, 2013, after a nearly two year struggle with cancer. He was 76. He is survived by his wife, Carol, their four daughters Elizabeth, Linda, Diane, and Stephanie, and nine grandchildren.

Contributions in Master Chu's honor can be made to the Tai Chi Chuan Center. A memorial took place at St. Peter’s Church (54th and Lexington in Manhattan) on the afternoon of November 9th, 2013. You can learn more about Master Chu's life in the Foreword to Why Tai Chi?, and read what some of his students have to say about the impact Master Chu had on their lives in the memorial guestbook.

I would think that with his long studies like many older teachers they have something that takes a long time to get
and may not transfer well in video format.

I don't know if he's been a bad teacher for all those years, I'm basing my judgment on the OP clip and I stand by it

You are probably right. But why then show a version of a form that would need careful instruction?

:-\

I can understand the perfectly upright and simplified modern Tai Chi versions. They are better for bigger groups and less detailed instructions, i.e. to be taught as beginner's stuff.

read his history, look at his posture and what he is teaching then decide.
Looking at his posture I can see the why and what. True the others can not do it, but they
are beginners no matter what they did it might not be correct.

The way he plays his form seems to reflect his own style and usage....
Reading the comments here I am amused by those commenting seeing someone who fights with
what he teaches and then mocking him when they see it....

Exactly, "no matter what they did it might not be correct." That's my point.

It's hard for any beginner to understand why and when. Thus it's better to teach things that won't hurt their bodies too much if they get it wrong or if they develop wrong habits.

Safety for the students... That's something any good teacher would consider.

Windwalker,

Forget the mans name. His history. Forget even that he is showing tai chi for a moment.

Do you think it's good to teach people who work in an office, probably at desks, to produce this posture?

I don't care who this man is, where he came from or how famous he is, that method looks terrible for those people.
