Just stumbled upon this on Youtube. It's the footage of CCL playfully taking on a foreign challenger from the studio audience.

Not exactly a free-fighting demo, but definitely beats the ones that only involve a student standing still with an arm out.

as i said before, normal progression is from big to small,
large movements to small ones
cos the master understands the nature of the force and the limits
he is not afraid to receive your attacks

I like the spontaneous nature of the demo, and how the attacks and responses do not seem staged, which is often the case on Chinese TV shows. Master Chiu also shows a nice combination of striking, kicking, and joint-locking techniques rather than just the usual "hand chasing" patty-cake game that many CMAists like to demonstrate in public.

I've said it a few times since the 90's...I've seen CCL when he's not on Camera. (Especially one time back in Oakland)
He's older now...but IMO, He's one of the very few from his generation who would spar / fight / mix it up. Like a gangster!

I find myself reading rsf these days and wondering what drugs you guys are on

The stuff on the TV show is just pre-arranged nonsense as usual (what do you expect from PRC TV?!). However, really liked the video of him teaching in Singapore, from the way he talks about and demonstrates usage you can tell he has at least used his art for real at some point (especially when he adds 2 or 3 follow-up attacks after the arm control / elbow break) - really nice stuff!

Only have seen clips of him on the net...He seems to have
internalized his art and has made it very functional bridging traditional practices
with a modern perspective for today's practitioner..

Thoughts, from your training ?

I find anyone who knows the full Hung Gar system is internal
Saying that his parents were traditional hung gar as is his video
