Good commentary in the beginning of the clip

He talks of "knowing your limit" ;)
and levels of practice..

Shows chen style with detailed corrections outlining theory with examples.
English subtitles for non native speakers.

good,, do you feel his view points have changed since then
or can you add to some of the things he explained ?

Not a fan of chen style but did like his commentary in the beginning.

I don't really know if he has changed because that was the only time we met
He taught some standing ,silk reeling and form
He worked through an interprator so nothing he said was too profound
He was a nice guy with a touch of arrogance that came from his position

Here is an article about the five levels of skill by CXW.

http://www.shou-yi.org/taijiquan/5-levels-of-skill-in-chen-taijiquan

I put an interview with CXW that I ran across on my website that talks about dantian a bit.

In the interview, he has described much of the basics of the Village art:

We must harmonize posture and movement. Once this is achieved the dantian can be located and from there start moving....

we look for the one principle that all these forms, weapons and applications follow.... There is only one principle: When the dantian moves, the whole body follows...all principles are summarized in one: if the dantian moves, the whole body follows.

There are two forms of Chansi...Shunchan...Nichan....

There are three types of movement in the Chansigong. The first is Nichan-Sunchan [moving the dan tian left and right], the second is [moving the dan tian] forward and backward, and the third is a combination of the two. In the latter movement we use diagonal axes and the dantian and by extension the whole body.

What he doesn't explicitly state or teach is that these three types of movement can be embodied in two basic "circles". With two hands, there are eight basic combinations and permutations of doing the circles. These form the basis for nearly every move (and application) in Chen Taijiquan: "Once that is understood, once it is assimilated inwardly, it can be applied to a thousand or ten thousand techniques."

Charles how do you get to 8 ? Two hands and two circles yield 4?
Positive-positive, positive-negative, negative-positive, negative-negative.

Is there a third factor (perhaps phase difference)? that would bring the permutations to 8.
Just trying to understand
Thanks in advance

Bingo.

Here's a video of Zhu Tiancai showing his "neigong" set. It includes the 8 possibilities commonly used. In the video he does the following, in order:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lKnfapx ... 2552EF53F7

1. one hand, positive circle
2. one hand, negative circle

right hand, positive circle
right hand, negative circle
left hand, positive circle
left hand, negative circle

3. right hand, negative circle, left hand, negative circle, 180 degrees out of phase
4. right hand, positive circle, left hand, positive circle, 180 degrees out of phase (Cloud Hands)
5. right hand, positive circle, left hand, negative circle
6. right hand, negative circle, left hand, positive circle
7. right hand negative circle, left hand negative circle, in phase
8. right hand positive circle, left hand, positive circle, in phase

Great answer Charles, Thanks a lot.
