Chi-sao gone wild

Postby C.J.W. on Wed May 31, 2017 7:26 am

Saw this clip on Youtube a while back and thought it would serve as a reminder why crossing hands with people you do not know well always comes with risk:

The description says the aggressive puncher is a WC guy, but I disagree. It seems to me that his human punching bag is trying to do Chi-sao, while he is using non-WC techniques. Any thoughts as to what the guy's style might be?

The same thing happens with push hands, and yet those same people who do this never seem to test their skills out side of this context.
It's a problem with many viewing a development tool as the actual expression or use of the art. IMO builds up many false expectations and
bad habits.

Another problem of only training "the deadly" and not sparring enough - people have too much ego, not enough learning mindset, and absolutely no ability to adjust their power / intensity.

That cunt asks "are you ok?" at the end ::) I hope he gets his ass beat.

Saw that in Facebook....I think I read that the guy getting trounced was talking a bunch of smack prior to and basically he had finally pissed off the wrong guy in the school.

Don't know if or what is heresay ....could be all b.s. I know in the past I've come across people who have needed / deserved a good beat down but I was mature enough to hold back.

Still...I can see both views,. To do it or not to... sometimes you just want to wreck a fool!

Since we don't know what exactly happened prior to the "unfriendly" exchange, it's hard to judge who's right or wrong.

Perhaps the guy had it coming for shooting his mouth off, but if both sides had agreed to only chi-sao, and the other guy all of a sudden went nuts and started throwing wild punches, then I'd say it was a dick move on his part.

If he'd wanted to teach him a hard-hitting lesson fair and square, the exchange should've been carried out in sparring or free-fighting format in the first place.

Guy on the right is a dick... (does not matter what the other guy is)...

and if you get pissed off... you're not relaxed enough ;P

not sure what the lesson was

was it that the guys punches were ineffective
cause the guy who got hit seemed fine after the exchange..

Not chi sao.

Is (supposed to be, it seems) a lap sao drill, but uh.. isn't. Punching bag on the left is not a WC guy - straight punch is supposed to be answered with bong sao, not wu sao, like he's trying. The dick on the right seems to transition to bong sao a couple of times, but through a WC lens his form is pretty.. uh.. average.

There's footage of Bruce doing lap sao with slightly better form:

Don't exactly know what either guy was trying to achieve here - punching bag clearly had no interest in any aggro

And as Franklin mentioned - the dick clearly can't hit hard. A common WC failing (slappy, fast but weak hands)

Could be. Or maybe the puncher just wanted to slap the guy around and make him eat humble pie.

Classic modern Wing Chun conundrum speed in place of power.
The point . is absolute
