Wu Style oid video

Postby HaraldH on Wed Jan 17, 2018 3:06 pm

Is that older video known?

I always feel that many of the older guys on the black & white movies look much more impressive than what I can see on average from current material. Can we assume they where just much more skillful at least on the form side?

Nice vid, thanks for sharing. Felt out all my tendons while watching :)

Re now and then: perhaps one of the reasons of such an impression is that video recording at that time was very expensive. If someone deserved to get on film, he must really stand out.

for those feeling the movement quality was good or exceptional

Is it reasonable to assume that he can give up so much space using the transition timing between movements
and use the next movement. In other words are the transitions between movements fluid with out stopping..

It was not to clear on my I pad
However I think it might be Chen wing Kwong
If not it is the same circular form I learned through both the tan mon hung and Chen tin hung lineages
It is done very well
Thanks for posting

Take a video of a current performer, reduce the frame rate, blur the focus, etc., and then compare. At least then it's apples to apples...

Yes, such a big gap. The movements of Zheng Rong Guang seem very purposeful as if he knows what he is doing. I feel that maybe he could also apply this for real ...

From the little Wu-Taiji I was exposed to while I lived in Beijing this looks somewhat different, slightly more flow and slightly more solid. One thing that also might make it seem of higher movement skill could be the clothing, but for sure the man in the vid perform excellent.

For me the original video looks better because he's doing it "as it would work". The other performances seem slowed down to the point of obsolescence from a martial arts point of view. Sure, everything could be lined up and connected, but there's no expression of force. For a move to work it needs a certain kind of dynamic that reflects a realism on how the opponent would react, or the forces necessary to actually throw somebody from an arm grab, or lift them, or make then fall back. That's what I see in the older performance from ZRG/CWK.
One does not simply post on RSF.

Anyone who wants to see Master Cheng Wing Kwongs Taijiquan alive today should check out the recent Wu style applications thread.
