Thanks very much for sharing, really like this series of videos. Would be nice to see something more interactive but it’s obviously solid basic boxing skills. If I recall correctly Eric Ling’s channel has got something more freestyle on it somewhere from the same school, don’t know about lineage. Thanks again.

p.s. I hope he didn’t miss the phone call he was waiting on :-)

Haha what can I say, he is a busy man...

The Eric Ling interview with was GM Cheong Cheng Leong, teacher of Sifu Choe and myself, not really free style but Eric throws a couple of things and GM shows his applications.

Wayne I will ask him about that, but there is a lot of things he is putting into the comprehensive teaching course which will be available for download on our website, obviously this is just a very foundation level explanantion on these tuition videos. He has had lots of experience going around crossing hands with various martial artists in Penang, and has a very good ability in freestyle, no rules exchange, very good shock power and can enter and use it.

I am not doubting him or his lineage
I would just like to see him do stuff against someone who is moving and involved

At the risk of raising a tired subject I’m still surprised that there’s not more trapping skill used in MMA and other formats. This kind of stuff works great against jabs and crosses if you train it well. I’ve seen a few decent examples of it used in UFC which is obviously less tidy than this demo but very effective.

My Muay Thai coach also trains Wing Chun which I thought was a weird combo but occasionally he’ll hand out a dead arm with a bong sau or throw a short punch from clinch which will snap your head back, cool stuff.

Trapping hand skills (shou-fa) certainly has it's place in fighting. But I tend to think it's often over-emphasized in TCMA. There are too many TCMAists who only train hand skills in static drills or semi-cooperative formats that involve some sort of wrist or arm contact, and believe that they will be able to apply their arts for real when push comes to shove. It is, IMO, a terribly erroneous assumption.
