That's interesting about Erle he was always known as a pommie when he was in Sydney
I'm pretty sure he told me the same thing
But as I wasn't there at his birth I will take his word for it
However the first line of his bio does describe Wollongong the third largest city in the state as a little mining village
Always one for the narrative erle

The only person I ever heard Erle talk about was Chu in London and later yang Sou Chung in HK
I don't know anyone who ever heard of Tokyo Joe
Our second school after we moved from Chinatown was at central station beside the PMG
I ran a daytime class and many of the student came to do it from the PMG in their lunch break

Although I have a friend who learned from Erle and teach his way of Taiji I have not really bothered to know more about it, up until now that I read that Bio in this tread I only knew he learned from a somewhat mysterious Chinese teacher he happened to meet at some dockyard or something as that...Reading his Bio it seem that he got most of TJQ fundamentals(and maybe more) duringhis time in England.....

All this talk of Erle made me go and watch his 'how to Fajing' video on YouTube. Random flailing of arms complete with Bruce Lee animal noises WAAAA WOOOO WEEEE!!!!!! . I guess it was a different time...

No times weren't that different
People due to their karma or upbringing gravitate to certain teachers that fulfill their needs
I see the same things going on today
Some go deep into reality others follow fantasy
You just have to see some of the recent righting on this site
The only thing that differs these days is that due to the Internet many people can sound a lot more knowledgeable
Look at all the Chinese terminology being sprouted by practicioners of Japanese arts
They tell you this was always part of their art yet it was never spoken about
The Internet and the seminar circuit have a lot to answer for
There were always those who looked until they found the real stuff and those that went for a good story and promises of secret knowledge
That is still quite evident
