Li Tai Liang’s Public Talk on Xinyi-Dao Kung Fu system at Stanford University’s East Asia Library.

Xinyi-Dao: From tradition to modernity in a Chinese martial art.

Grandmaster Li Tai Liang‘s public talk at Stanford University’s East Asia Library, on March 8th, 2018, hosted by Joshua Capitanio, Ph.D. This public talk discusses the origins and methods of the Xinyi-Dao system, a modern synthesis of the traditional Chinese martial arts of Xingyiquan, Baguazhang, Taijiquan, and Shaolinquan. This medical talk discusses the internal components of the Xinyi-Dao system, its health benefits and martial arts usage. Grandmaster Li was a member of the Wushu (martial arts) department of the Beijing Sports University, where he helped to establish and promote the sport of Sanshou (competitive kickboxing), and went on to serve as the first coach of the Beijing Sanshou Team. He has also been an instructor for the Chinese People’s Armed Police, and was a Sanshou coach for the famed Shaolin Temple.

Grandmaster Li’s direct experience in creating a new martial arts system provides an unique perspective on the continued development of traditional Chinese arts and culture in the modern world.

Fantastic, thanks Marvin. I've always been impressed with Li Sifu's stuff. Although different, his movement reminds me a little of Wai Lun Choi. Real top shelf. I look forward to watching the lecture vids

He moves well but the form is just bits and pieces
I can see no reason to practice it other than to have another form
It is the training in these arts that gives them value',the moving thru stages of development
He doesn't even seem to have taken the best parts of each
Like they say we don't need more cookbooks we need more chefs
Don't put power into the form let it naturally arise from the form

Li Tailiang has really nice movement, very characteristic Dai style shenfa but with bagua type movement / footwork. I would also question the value of creating these 'mixed' forms though - probably just something he created for performances. To get the skill you need to train the way he trained, not what he demonstrates in public.

Maybe he just made it up on the spot - many seem to avoid performing actual full sets in general, and instead just show a little bit, often mixed around.

But the crowd probably liked it - they got to see xinyi/xingyi, bagua, and taiji!

Yeah, my assumption was the same as Ed - I figured he just made it for demonstration purposes.
