what makes the taiji guy a master of taiji, instead of just a taiji guy, like mma guy is listed as an "mma fighter"

being a taiji "master" does not mean or confer that one is a "fighter"
Maybe the taiji "guy" should have opted for push hands first...

Don't put power into the form let it naturally arise from the form

The betting industry would crash if we all thought like that :)

Everyone will keep saying 'This isnt tai chi ... this guy isnt a master etc'

Until a tai chi guy wins ... then it will be Tai Chi! Wonder if we will ever see the day!

Not really true, historicaly when they did fight and win....YLC remarked about one of his son's winning a match
and not really using taiji....

If we ever see the day?

Seems like an odd attitude to have about an art that many here say they practice some even teach.
Either it works or it doesn't.

I don't quite get posting the fails of people who claim to be taiji masters getting killed by mma guys or what ever.
Why they are called masters or what this means is not really qualified, how can they be held up as representative of
a method or style..

To Date, there are very few unmodified CMA styles that compete and win.
One example of a style that competes and wins....

Ok maybe i should be more specific. If we ever see the day a claimed 'Tai chi fighter' wins one of these types of NHB matches.

So if YLC's own son doesnt live up to the definition then what chance do others have?

The value of posting these things is not for the experienced exponent like yourself, or many of the people on the board. However, there are ALOT of delusional people in the CIMA when it comes to fighting skill (normally they will talk about rules, format etc until their favoured style wins something), even on this board. Videos like this help to begin to break the shell of delusion a little and make them investigate and probe their personal practice a little.

Note i am not saying ALL tai chi people suffer from this. There are Tai Chi exponenets I have met who i class as the very top teir of Martial artists i have been in contact with ... however, they ultimately represent the most minute fraction of the participants that they hardly register. So should a method be judged by the Elite members of its participants or the general level of the group as a whole? IMO the latter would point to the potential of the training method, and the former the potential of the individual ... becasue you are not that individual, their personal achievement is irrelevant. But the method they used IS relevant ... can it reliably produce fighting skill. IMO the unfortunate answer in the case of the vaste majority of Taichi (note = not all) is no ... it cannot.

Thanks.

To be fair, I did see a couple of Tai Chi techniques there before he hit the deck...

Separate left and right kick
High pat on horse....

then punch to face followed by dreamtime. -zzz-

Seems like the kick was monkey retreats - he should have added in the hands instead of grabbing the rope.
That kick was slow and more of a push.
What kind of match has one guy in fight gear and the other in taichi outfit and bare handed?
This just looks like a MMA promotion.
