In this videoclip master Sam Tam is giving out some basic instructions to the first section of his Taijiform.

Where a lot of variations of the Yang style emphazises a quite "heavy bottom", strong and powerfull legs and that the movements travel from the feet to the fingertips, the main focus here, is on sinking the Qi and shifting.

Learn how to perform the first section of the Sam Tam Tai Chi form taught at our Portland studio, with Sifu Jeff Patterson demonstrating each technique in the first section.

Step slowly and smoothly out to shoulder width, as you set the left foot down it points directly forward, turn the right foot in by turning the waist and having the foot and arms following the center line, raise hands, sync with elbows & hands, shift the weight into the left foot and pivot the right out to the corner (hold the ball),turn to the front step into a bow stance, pivot right, step step out into a bow stance, circle arms, movement of hands following the circle, coil the spine, right hand into a hook, and complete. Weight transfers need to be smooth. Focus on a relax state of body.

The movements of this Tai Chi Form:
1 Open to Tai Chi
2 Raise Hands
3 Ward Off Left
4 Ward Off Right
5 Roll Back
6 Press
7 Push
8 Octopus
9 Single Whip
