Chen style Taiji, Yang WenJing (very wriggly).

I like it! His spine and hips seem both mobile and powerful, the flow of force from his legs through his torso is smooth and fluid, he has a nice cardigan, great facial expressions, and overall just looks like he's practiced a whole lot and isn't there to fuck around.

One of my favorite videos. This is Yang WenHu, who is featured in the famous pictures of Chen Zhaokui pushing hands. Yang WenJing was his brother, and the teacher of my first real taiji teacher.

Here he is doing Er Lu:

I believe that when Zhaokui left Beijing, Yang went and studied Bagua with Tian Hui?

Actually no. I have no interest in yang or wudang Style anymore. To me they are like a kids art. Or perhaps more like going to grade school and Chen is like going to college. But thanks for your comment anyways

I think I've watched this very briefly earlier, but didn't take much notice of it. Seems to be a very powerful gent. One of the few Chen stylists I wish I could feel first hand.
I like his spirit and that he really use all of his body. He seems to be very full of himself... In a good way... if you understand what I mean. ;D

Thought it was Wenhu, didn't even know about Wenjing.

Interesting. Seems to be a lineage with much potential. Can you point out some special features or the focus of your teacher's Tai Chi? What did he "feel" like?

This is the second part of the OP.

His form didn't seem to transfer to his two man stuff
Don't put power into the form let it naturally arise from the form

I don't know any names, but I believe he and his brother were bagua guys first, and when their bagua teacher either left or died was when they found Chen Zhaokui. I do know that sometimes if Yang Wenjing couldn't teach class he would have one of his bagua brothers come and beat the shit out of all his students for class that day.

This Rings true. My teacher also has influence of bagua. When I asked him about it, he said that they were sister Arts. Lu ping learned Chen from Zhaokui's senior students.

You are correct. Transferring that type of body Motion in a two-man set is extremely difficult to do. What they are working on is just standard stuff

For that kind of partner work the outer shapes may be more restrained, but the gongfu developed by the form practice definitely transfers.

That the shenfa looks a bit different in form and applications doesn't bother me at all. You will punch differently if you throw a punch in the air or at a bag. You always need to work differently with mechanics when you work on a physical body. Maybe he wanted to exaggerate and show the mechancs very clearly in the solo form set? That is very hard to do when you work on appplication and IMO quite pointless. For partner work, it's always better to focus more on function and less on the visual expression. IMO. ;)
