It doesn't matter whether he's a bagua guy or not. He is unable to protect himself from the muay thai guy. He could survive using only defense, but he didn't have one. He could also survive if he had an offense, but what would that be?

Here's a "xingyi v mma" bout. Same problem.

Here's a praying mantis v. mma bout with a completely different conclusion. Is it the style?

Why don't CMA people apply na, shuai, etc to the MMA stuff instead of immitating praying mantis, dog tripping, cat meowing stuff which does nothing to exemplify that functional part of the art?

Part might be style ie assumptions by which it works or not, the other may be how its trained.

I think it's always a matter of training.

Bug styles might be more down to earth, Taiji and stuff might be too far out in the cosmos :)

Three guys enter a tournament. One is a chess master; one is a master of Go; one is an expert in Chinese chess. The problem is that it's a checkers tournament. Chess may be more complex, a graduate level game. But, they all have to play checkers. A Chinese chess master may win, but only after learning to play checkers. At least, he can't expect to be successful if he's never played to game. Unless, of course, he's playing someone who is equally inexperienced.

In the case of the clips, all seem to feel they can play just using a different method which for those methods used has not been shown to work like the stories of past Masters in modern times

My first question would be what makes or qualifies them as representative of the methods used.

I don't see a problem with te rules here. Fighting is fighting.

The bagua guy is clearly clueless about basic notions of fighting. No distance control, no timing, no game plan... he guy is useless doing any damage. We all know people with no prior martial arts training who could have done it much better than the bagua guy.

This is so lame it hurts cause at least his martial training should have prevent him to get into the ring and allow him to know that he can't fight...

When you practice you got to be sincere with yourself. Your training should show you your limits and not feed stupid fantasies.

If you want to fight you got to fight. Is that simple. And you have to have the fighting guide your training not the other way around.

This 'whatever' VS Mma stuff is so lame is painful to watch.

Nearby in the park in Dalian where i was practicing Taiji there was an Bagua guy practicing, he had sword, sabre, spear, staff and an halberd with him to practice with. He were walking in circles for lengthy times holding postures then he went throu routines with his weapons one by one for lengthy times, in the winter he practiced just wearing an t-shirt on his upper body, I guess he believed that would make him stronger in a way... ....I guess many people that’s into TCMA’s focus on too many things in order to feel and show they are doing authentic TCMA’s.......Now of course I don’t know if that guy in the park could handle himself in a fight, maybe he could.

To take these clips seriously and then to discuss them is more ridiculous then the clips themselves.
These fights are not properly setup - look at the difference in protective gear.
They are propaganda to get the money flow for MMA going in China. They are based
on the theme of taking lambs to slaughter.
Please stop the BS - I am losing all respect.
