Karate Black Belt Describes Being Thrown by Tai Chi Expert

Postby origami_itto on Fri Apr 07, 2023 5:06 am

Introducing Matt from his channel Funkalopigus, sharing a couple of stories of his first hand experience of being thrown around by Adam Mizner at a Heaven Man Earth Tai Chi workshop and describes beautifully how it felt.

Big thank you to Matt for his eloquent explanation and for being happy for me to chop his video shorter. I wanted it short but his stories and general descriptions were so good that getting it down to 9.5 minutes was as much as I could possibly trim. (plus Adams clips). Thanks mate.

isn't this what we said (well 3 of us) in your highest of hands post?

idk if it should mean more coming from a gentle-hippie-looking "karate expert" than the 3 of us, but he says it all "long form style" kind of very nicely.

also like how he gives the UFO analogy at the end. think that's what it sounds like if you have no idea what he's saying and what it feels like to try to tell people.

;D

Was wondering when someone would see the conundrum :-\

everything can be written allowing all to view it within their minds eye, in relationship to their experience ..Never really questioned, seemingly agreed on by all reading :)
.
Once it's shown outside of their experience by those who can do, and do publicly

Well ?

It is RSF ;D

Any views of the guy posting the clip doing anything but praising Adam and playing video games
He claims high skill levels but I would like to see them

Karate people don't really grapple or wrestle so he may as well be a noob.
telling someone to resist while they just stand there for a technique is NOT the way. lol.

if a skilled practitioner didn't make a big impression in the context he demonstrates at his seminars I would be more surprised.
Anyone with any real experience and knowledge surely will see beyond the hyperbole.

He would get eaten alive by the guys winning throwing/ wrestling competition at a good level.

that's a real and meaningful benchmark where being thrown is concerned, not the over excited noob opinion of some random with a karate BB.
(essentially meaningless in this context)

What I find interesting is he claims to be a high level karate guy
The only thing I can find is his stuff on mizner and video games

Almost everyone who comes up on here someone knows them
Especially if they have senior rank
I just find it funny that if someone spends time to say someone is highly skilled in an art they have never practiced before
They attest to their own expertise to validate what the say but don’t show the basis from which they speak

There have been others who have documented skill, as shown in the recent ROGAN & WERDUM DISAGREE ON CHI

The first thing that happens, discredit the demo, followed by attempting to discredit those shown in it....

those there seem to be having a good time. exploring something they have an interest in..

Looks to me like Werdum is acting when running backwards

Looks like is not the same as is... ;D

A common reaction, even more pronounced when encountering those who have greater skill levels.

Have felt that, if shown here would look the same... A common reaction is laughing feeling that one is trying to catch up with their balance point

The reactions shown are common,,,for those working with the same concepts most can do some of it, although maybe not to the same level...

Those that come to train, are not for the most part coming to learn how to "fight" IME most visiting my teacher had many, many yrs of experience in other CMA arts some quite skilled. They came to feel something different, some staying trying to gain an understanding of what they felt...

The work is quite surprisingly physical, to reconnect the body in a different way....the hardest part the "mind"

When told not to

不用力,用意.

do not use force, use intention

takes a while to understand what this means....

mmm,,MMA doesn't work maybe wingchun ;D

In this video, Ben Cohen analyzes Sifu Adam Mizner,
INTERNAL WING CHUN

What say the many here,,,, :)

One time the father of a guy, asked me to try some chi sao with his son " first time trying chi sao" probably not chi sao from my end...

In his mid 20s, his father felt he was quite good at wingchun..mentioned he was very soft and sensitive.
The son was unable to do his chi sao stuff,,,he felt very rigid and angular, although as his father mentioned he was supposed to be quite good at wingchun..
I suppose if he had a "structure" to work against his skill would be quite good,,finding none, there was none to apply it to.

Mentioning this only to illustrate one should test their own work, not claiming any great skill

Did get injured by a sambo guy once, who tried to take out my knee....
Took awhile for it to heal up,,,at the time it happened, made sure to not show any pain while tossing him out, with a smile .

lesson learned sometimes what some say is a friendly test may not be..
