Notable Tai Chi teacher, Damo Mitchell, just released a new video with Adam Mizner where he addresses some of the controversy over The Power of Chi documentary that is worth watching, if you care about these sorts of things.

Totally agree. Seems they feel a need to create distance from the film.

Don't know if they are really in need of distancing themselves from the doc. It's more like they need to distance themselves from criticism. They do a good job by avoiding and minimizing it.

I think it's a shame that teachers of their supposed caliber openly show themselves getting drunk. Adam once said that the only thing he can't let go of is to have a glass of water next to his bed at night. Yeah sure.

This is quite the interesting response.

First, it's wrong, but WHY it's wrong is what's interesting.

The top of the screen and the url and the breadcrumb navigation all say RUM SOAKED FIST and the banner shows the monkey king and friends having a bit O' booze.

So accurate information is easily available.

Yet to preserve ego, we ignore that information and try to cleverly call back to the name of a different website hosted on different servers and managed by different people that some of the members here used to participate on before it was shut down.

But being ultimately ignorant of the context and evolution and history, we got THAT name wrong too.

So rather than serving the point one is trying to make, well....

A good effort!

Just for the record, I don't think there's anything wrong with having a drink. Damo and Adam are adults and can drink as much as they like and smoke as much as they like. I do wonder if it fits with the image of the saintly Buddha sitting on a throne that Adam likes to project, but hey most Gurus are probably more like drunk Adam and drunk Damo behind the curtain anyway.

RE: Empty Flower

As somebody who was there when it was decided, the forum had to be renamed because somebody effectively hijacked the 'empty flower' site, so we all left. The new forum was named after Felipe Bido's humorous Xing Yi name because nobody could think of anything better. Felipe no longer posts here but he might lurk - I don't know. The picture was also a holding image until we could find something better, but we all liked it - it's a tea shop - people drinking tea and chatting, which was the idea for the forum.

These days it's mainly drinking beer and bitchin' about each other. Welcome to late-stage capitalism I guess?

People I know still call it empty flower though, after all these years. RIP David.
