Bagua - Yi Bai She -100 Snakes

Can be done both in place and moving and some of the moving can be done as part of walking the circle for changing direction. Some use light wrist weights in practicing. The movement without rising palms affects kidneys other palms can incorporate heart and liver if you are into that perspective. Some this can be modified to employ half brick (in hands) training.

Although not from the Li Shuwen/Liu Yunqiao line, in the first clip you can see the potential training and application usage of 100 snakes - we also did it on poles In the first clip you see it as part of baji but not sure that line trains it the same way - 2nd clip is from Liu Yunqiao line and is in bagua - it is not clear whether 100 snakes arose from bajiquan practice or bagua practice but it can definitely be useful in both systems

2nd clip shows how it is used in the changes of direction when walking the circle

Liu Yunqiao is a Baguazhang (Professor Dai Shizhe, Cheng Xutai)

Can also find usage in our 64 internal palm

There was an article in the old Tai Chi Magazine by Fus number one student who was featured on the cover
He was in his 80’s and bald his name escapes me
It was about the use of the 100 snakes as a body method
It was so good I copied it and gave it to all my students

I've always wondered exactly where these came from in our system

Pretty sure it was bagua and I always really liked them

Unfortunately I just gave my complete collection of Tai Chi Magazines (some dated in the 1980s I think) to a friend who owns a martial arts school - his students love reading the articles along with a very old publication Internal Arts

I have them from number one when it was a couple of roneoed sheets
I even have an article in number 3 I think
The one I’m talking about was in one of the last ones
He is not talking about exercises but points of progression and internal feeling
He talks about your arms being like pythons at one stage then even further along being like 100 small snakes
