didn't bother posting the video, b/c these videos elicit the usual boring and unhelpful or ignorant comments. will post some automated transcript instead.

so we're building this these different
yinyang differentials openings and
closings in the body and coordinating
them up well connecting them up would be a better way to phrase
it which allows the qi to mobilize.
we're training the qi to mobilize through the silk body through certain
Pathways which are dictated by the variations of opening and closing right
and what is most conductive and stretched and stuff like
that...

now people misunderstand the method and think that the stretch is the
power that's a common mistake so they try to stretch to make power and it's an
understandable mistake it's a near enemy because stretching makes a kind of power a kind of external power right in a similar way when you're during the sinking phases descending and building pressure people often mistake the
pressure for the power once again it's a near enemy because the pressure makes a
kind of power yep but these are not the power the jin must come from
mobilization of qi that is it.

if it's
not coming from the mobilization of qi
it's not jin it's external
power. so we train the body the external
training to educate the qi how to move
inside. it's mudra
practice - practicing shape coordinating shapes moving between shapes so you know things close things
open in this kind of external way

- "near enemy of nei jin" video

Thought it was quite interesting....
His verbiage from my POV uses a little different understanding, he demos the same type of skill sets
as those I've met....

Good skill set...

His point of not feeling the energy, echos the training being able to train and use "emptiness"

Master Wang Yongquan: Exploring the Essence of Tai Chi with Precision

"The formation of the balloon involves the relaxed dispersal of spirit and intention, not the expansion of tendons, bones, and muscles.
The method of practicing with the balloon involves the dispersal of spirit and intention from the center outward, “loose, dispersed, and round.”

the "this is a mistake" comments are helpful for me. stretching is not the power even if it feels powerful. sinking and "pressurizing" feels powerful in a different way. kind of tense and hold your breath and brace yourself feels "powerful" but definitely not "song". those kinds of states are common w/o needing to be interested in martial arts and easy to feel imho, so knowing "this isn't what you're trying to do" is nice as a kind of anti-guidepost type of comment. this balloon idea seems to be similar but more difficult for me to follow.

The vid would probably been more “fun”

Listening to people talk endlessly about qi is also a near enemy of jin. 8-)

So the short version is the things you do in training to condition the body are different than what you do to apply the art.

:)

As mentioned his practiced based on the verbiage, seems like a little different understanding then mine and others I know or knew, reflected in my own work..

Empirical based taiji practice theory and usage
Reflecting the teachings of Master Zhang Youngliang,
and other noted masters of taiji.

We also have sets of body conditioning practice, designed for some of the things, he mentioned in the clip..

In some cases before some things can be practice the conditioning exercises alone took about three years,
although it's not part of my practice or something I actively pursue.

One can not argue with the results of his practice, the same results achieved by other noted practitioners using the same theories..

The recent thread on speed in practice
also reflective of our practice in that it is slow, the natural course of the mind leading the body movements, keeping within the framework of six harmonies, three gates...
After awhile as it deepens it becomes even slower to outside observer's not the ones in the practice.

Wouldn't call it meditative, more like an unfocused awareness observing....the same awareness and conditioning used in testing and usage...

Fast or slow
Meditation or not
It is more important how you move
How you follow the principles

the youtube realtime transcription is probably a little off. discussing the video would probably be more "entertaining" but usually just derails to ad hominem attacks on the teacher, sidebar stories, etc... the usual fun stuff ;D

I think the question that arises is if the power is not in the stretch or in the "pressure", a bunch of tension based "wind up", then how do you avoid the "near enemy" when it always feels powerful.

i think this relates to the store/release topic. for me, i think a "near enemy" is attachment to a "full qi" feeling. trying to "feel more qi". like adam said, stretching or "pressure" feels like it should be powerful. not really "tense", but it's kind of the opposite of fangsong.

Sometimes I feel like he's intentionally obtuse.

Here he says stretching is a kind of power, but not the right thing,

Then he's saying in this that stretching is where he's at
https://youtu.be/4SN1ZsXaBk4?si=zVtjXAK_xZmukSgN

And here he says you stretch them to capture them
https://youtu.be/-T6243doOm4?si=JPKNdehA2Abp7Xe6

I asked him about the difference between the last two one time and he yelled at me and told me not to try connecting dots, I don't think I asked him any more questions after that

not really following 100%, but my rough read:

- if we look at something like a golf swing or baseball pitch or tennis serve, there is a lot of wind up that can "store" a lot of "stretch reflex". it certainly feels powerful. you feel that compression of all the springs ready to uncoil.

- if we look at something like the "hydraulic pressure feeling" - there really doesn't have to be that muscle-fascia-stretch windup, and it still feels powerful.

neither is fangsong (for the "mobilization of qi").

interesting videos.

Very clear ;D

He seems to be working on with what we would call the "skin" level with those attending...

the first of three levels developed and trained.

skin, hair, and "air " ;D

As to the stretching and the strategies using them this might help.

Tai Chi Fascial Movement Patterns and Strategies

In the state of relaxing the whole body and

relaxing without stepping on the body, the tip of the middle finger Leading the
fascia to stretch, the hands, body, feet, springs, and fascia move upward and
forward at the same time.

When returning to the posture, the fascia is swallowed back by the fingertips, and the body is still in a full state of full
string bow, and the cycle starts again and again

"When exerting force, you and your opponent form a Tai Chi state, and then use the Luo Hu Gong and other hesitation skills to make the opponent unbalanced, causing him to fall without falling, or the opponent senses danger and jumps out with his feet off the ground to protect himself.

" This is a practice in itself.

This kind of strategy is based on the essence of Tai Chi.

It is a strategy that is not deliberately used.
