Aikido in MMA

Probably an old one, but I hadn't seen it before.

Like I said before, the next "evolution" in MMA is an integration back to traditional arts! :)

those are good moves. machida is great but I wouldn't call that "aikido in MMA". maybe "bagua in MMA" ;D but really that's probably just his karate.

second one reminds me of one of Sakuraba's moves, can't remember right now
amateur practices til gets right pro til can't get wrong
/ better approx answer to right q than exact answer to wrong q which can be made precise /

Just curious, is he tapping or is the ref calling a foul, at the end. I am still unclear on what can be done in MMA and what cannot, I see lots of opportunity for TCMA to be used in the cage but the techniques are not employed, more specifically in takedown opportunity.

That move that Machida did is straight out of Shotokan Karate and the move that Shinya Aoki did can be found in virtually every martial art style, including Judo and Bjj which are arts that he does.

It's cool that the techniques are done in Aikido as well, but I don't think either guy has ever studied Aikido in any meaningful way if at all. Regardless of the technical origins, I'm a huge fan of fighters like this. Mostly because I think it's really interesting to see something besides the standard MMA stuff. Hopefully more effective "traditional ma" style techniques can make an appearance in this venue!

Wanderingdragon,
The second fight was stopped because the fighter had a broken elbow of some sort.

Thanks Bhassler,
my actual question is , is there some kind of MMA rule that doesn't allow chin na and certain joint locks or was that a legal takedown.
