Very cool. First time I've ever seen a clip full with Liu-He Mantis applications.

For those of you who know the style, is the teacher's power expression typical for this system?

CJ:

I can't answer your questions, but there is a clip of a guy in HK doing this art and I was sure it was HsingI until someone pointed out otherwise. A very unusual style of mantis, for sure.

I do know that Liu-He makes heavy use of rise-drill, overturn-fall like Hsing I. It's just that the Liu-He I've been exposed to here in Taiwan, from Wu-Tang, seem to have a different flavor of power expression comparing to what the master does in the clip.

Very nice, I like the true expression of whole body power he shows, you can see his weight sinking on the opponent in many of the examples . The techniques beginning at about 3:07 remind me of two of the LHBF animals.
The point . is absolute

short fist or duan chui 短捶

the set of methods is unique or only exists in liu he tang lang. it is an add on.

If I am not mistaken, Master Han, who shows applications in the first clip, is a long-term student of Liu Jin-Ru. Isn't he?

But their expression of power and flavor in the form seem quite different.

I usually do not comment on how fellow practitioner doing in their videos'. but I usually just add some more info in general.

1. short strike or short fist set is focusing on using your forearm to temporarily restrain or deflect the opponent's forearm. we then strike almost at the same.
time. it is close or short distance infighting.

2. use of the whole body to generate short burst of power and the angle of your strike are both important. most of the time, you are hitting the soft spots, such as ribside, chin, sternum, heart etc. we do not need to use a lot of power.

3. the practice set would be a good fit for other mantis sets/routines, incidentally, liu he does not have a lot of forms/routines.
b/c you are practicing a lot of skills of using your forearm to intercept--

4. actually, some of them are throws and not just hits as shown in the first video.

cool, thanks for posting.

From what I understand, the Liu He Duan Chui, is not a praying mantis form but is pure Liu He. However, it is suppposed to be a foundation training for the Liu He Tang Lang system. What is critical about the Liu He Tang Lang system is the hand and forearm training. Without the training it is not Liu He Tang Lang---However, nothing is written in stone!

It was a nice video, the short snappy power was neat.
But it's not Liu He mantis.
Liu He mantis uses long and heavy power to initiate forearm trappings and strikes.
That's why the other liuhe video have a completely different favour. They were doing it correctly. This guy is doing his own thing.
