boxing and hsing i practice

there was a boxing gym in boulder next to the club we played so i had to visit. they we just working out and training hard ... i thought it was interesting to watch the line drills the beginners were doing. it reminded me of hsing i. what do you think?

If it looks like anything but boxing I think it looks more like Tai Chi done fast than XY ;D

yes i think it looks like xing yi. Just with a different punching mechanism.

I agree with you Bruce. While having a definite boxing look to it, (for obvious reasons) I can see some similarity to some of the Xingyi half stepping drills that we do.

Know what you mean. We do a variant on the fire form which is in a straight line with jab-cross with half stepping, hitting from a head guard, I guess there's waist/footwork differences but otherwise pretty darned similar.

one of the things i likes from there line drill (the beginner boys in the ring) was the punch landed with the front foot and the second punch landed with the follow step.

boxing footwork actually shares a lot of similarity with xingyi and especially kendo. they do a follow step, but keep their back heel up.

Yeah, can be done both ways. As you know classical wood form does a forward and follow step for a single strike (jab or cross) but stepping forward with the jab and following with the cross can be very juicy as well!

Anyone got a perspective on heel up vs heel down? The feeling of the two is quite different when I play with it, but haven't done enough boxing to really comment...
