This is mr. Hong Qijun, who is the fifth generation of shisi bagua practitioner, the student of mr. Di zhaolong. Right now he is in Dalian China, teaching shisi baguazhang. The weapon he is demonstrating here is called bagua ji zhao yuan yang yue, ( bagua chicken claw knife). This is a very rare weapon now and very few people know it now.----www.ssbgz.com

Not sure what is so special about it. A local teacher charges an arm and a leg if you want to learn them, and there really seems like no reason for the inflated cost. To each their own I guess. Neat weapons.

if these are rare and unique, are hook swords as well?

IMO these weapons belong in ritual dances and museums.

It makes me think of something a 4 year old might come up with. Why have one blade when you can put like 50 blades on a sword.

Ok trying to use that will definitely get you killed. Was such a thing really taught as a traditional weapon? I mean, at best you'll give someone a scratch and piss them off.

One weapon that is exclusive to Choy Li Fut is the Nine Dragon Trident created by the Founder Chan Heung. This weapon was designed to shred any part of the opponent with which it might come into contact. The many hooks and blades can seize an opponent's weapon and, with one twist, rip it from his hands. The Nine-Dragon Trident is known as the "King" of all weapons.

Now I know the inspiration for Prince's "sign".

I think that the weapon's draw is mostly tradition - originally, it, along with the seven star rod, was reserved only for the lineage holders of the system, and was said to have been Dong Haichuan's favorite weapon (apparently found in his tomb when it was excavated to move elsewhere). Although it does not build strength like the huge broadswords or spear, you do have to become sufficiently agile enough to use it without poking yourself! ;)
