Thank you so much for posting.

Simplified Chen Tai Ji (Wu Tan frame) and Ba Ji mostly and some ba gua.

At the time, me was only in high school.

I think may be it was Tong Yang directing a ba ji class around 4:59.

absolutely cool. or collectible.

5 stars rating.

at 1:19

there are practice of back hand strike (fan bei chui) and then punching forward and upward (chong tian pao or cannon to the sky). in some later time, people just change the fist upward into palm upward or tong tian zhang or palm thru the heaven.

in Wu tan 32 forms, you see fist upward still even today.

sort of "unique".

cool.

SPJ:

Yes, that is Tony, my teacher for the last 20 years. The movements you see at 1:19 and 4:59 believe it or not are actually praying mantis--everyone was secretive about baji I don't think they ever taught it to the public.

When I joined up with Tony in 1988, everyone studied praying mantis, whether you liked it or not. Baji was only taught to tu di and behind closed doors. You couldn't even watch.

It is different today.

Yes. Mantis does have these moves. back hand strike etc.

The later part of the vid is mostly mantis and some kun wu swordplay toward the end.

absolutely enjoyed.

for people that are interested in the upward fist in Ba Ji.

at 0:41 and 0:43.

as Bob pointed out, the moves in the first clip was actually mantis and not ba ji.

SPJ:

At the 4:35 mark can you identify anyone sitting at the tournament table?

Love the above post. I don't have the form but have done many of the postures as single movments.

Thanks.

video is kind of blur.

let see, GM Liu wore big sun glasses. I always thought that people wore sun glasses b/c eyes are not so good. or may be being an agent for a long time, sun glasses would cover your face features to make people not to recognise you easily.--

chang dong shen?

several people looked like mantis teachers.

1. Zhang de kui (mi men tang lang): Su yu chang's teacher?

2. Wei xiao tang (8 steps mantis)?

3. Dai shi zhe ( 6 harmony mantis)?

edit: a long way of saying I dun really know for sure.

??? ;D 8-)

Follow up on upward fist in ba ji.

There is another one called wo li pao or inside the nest cannon.

you move your fist along the centerline and go all the way upward.

It is used to hit the chin etc.

they exist in old forms.

it is replaced by palm upward or wrist upward in newer forms.

--

it is of interest that over time some moves are dropped and replaced with a different one but with the same purpose/utility.

--

in old literature, you may find the names, but if nobody practice them anymore, over time, they will be lost with only names left behind.
