Oldschool Piquan

Just something i found on youku. Hard sole shoes on a wooden floor sure adds a flare, even though he is not stamping his foot, but if you mute the clip...you can still hear the thump of his Shen when he steps. ;D

question - is the grab down movement arm-only? I don't see any waist or dantian involved.

If he support his movement from his dan tian, only he can tell. But I think he does. You don't need to see any waist movement. You don't even need to drive your movement with your waist or dantian. If you can support your movement just at impact, it's quite enough in order to use "dan tian movement" or "qi". The visible is always mingjin, or evident force.

Jose: sorry, maybe I am just plain stupid, but why do you call it "old school piquan"? 'cause of his old age?

Because these days of silk pajamas and young guys doing their best, most dont have the bang for the buck. Plus, the guy doesnt move like song, or che, or modern hebei...he moves like old hebei, with paofali on all directions, while the trunk stays solid in the middle.

My opinion.

It's hard to call, isn't it?

I don't know either. But I do wonder whether in this picture the Emperor has internalised his clothes to the point where you or I can't see them anymore?

Solid piquan that is to be sure.
I would not like to be on the receiving end of one of his palm strikes. :D

Yeah I do sun style and it's fairly similar to that stylistically. Looks solid to me - No big overt waist movements but all the control is there, you can see the "wave" come out from the centre when he strikes. Nice.

dude my mind morphed the style and made it pigua then i watched it seeing that it was hsing piquan which you said it was in the 1st. palce. i had to laugh at myself. my mind sometimes playes tricks on me. waaay to often to my liking though .

thx. for that clip piguan and bengquan are are a couple of the things i have pratcied from this art , other than that i have done that rise dril fall overtun drill tooo many times to count and will renew that noww more since i am acyively teaching once again.
when you misinterpret my words please don't blame me for that; or act like i said what you changed based on a faulty interpretation instead of taking my words as written ! (I know, this is the internet, but that doesn't mean you can put words in my mouth)
