Ya know, in the states it depends on what happens in the "aha" part of the word. For ex, for last names, it seems we make a very long a sound. It's like 'Graaam." Other times, for first names, the a sound is short. Brits, otoh, tend to put a change in tone, or diphthong, or the h breaks up the two a's.

Should it be pronounced the same way we pronounce Abraham?

Naw, ime, Abraham is really distinguished from Abram. We always say the ham when we mean it. :)

The 'heitch' sound is interesting on its own.
