What is infernal?

Rum, beer, movies, nice websites, gaming, etc., without interrupting the flow of martial threads.

with a dash of humor, but meaning the best:

i'd describe affa's posts as sorta synesthetic (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Synesthetic) metaphor.

in which the media are the massages.

imagine the film director Peter Greenaway, cut with liberal doses of Marshall McLuhan, and spiced with the views of various philosophers and sociologists.

or, envision R.D. Liang, writing in a post-interwebs world. trying to explain the views of his patients (with some patience).

to be honest, i don't always get it all. but there's enough there that i do get, that i usually find
them worth thinking about. sometimes what i do get is hard to hold in my head, but i don't think that makes his posts irrelevant.

to be fair, i had to ask him once what was goin' on. but i've usually enjoyed his thoughts, and continue to do so.

grin...

they are definitely meta (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Meta), IMO.

if he makes a joke now and then, who can blame him?

IMO, it's fun to have a poster who challenges the parameters of posting.

best...

Everyone is exploring the parameters of the new medium, the world wide whatzit.

Apropos new media, Sir Dickson is now a father. http://kendalblack.blogspot.com/2010/10 ... ather.html

true, but affa's metaphoic excursions are not pure "fairy tale". i think they are useful explorations (even if metaphoric) into reality. this differs from "fairy tale."

I would differ. Fairy tale is the oldest form of literature, and every other kind is its subset.

A horror story is a fairy tale without the bright hopeful aspect.

A mystery story is a fairy tale with no godmothers.

A "literary" novel is a fairy tale without a moral.

And so on.

well, i'd hesitate to describe affa as missing chest(nuts), but maybe that's just me. as i like his posts, and his gumption.

he seems perfectly able to make his own statements, in his own style....

i do follow your statement about "fairy tales". (though fairy tales can exhibit relative levels of truth...and that's what i meant to say...)

i do think afffa's posts are more philosophical than phantasy. [sic]

and i hesitate to speak for him, as he seems very capable of speaking for himself,,,

klonk, i do think you have created a thread perfectly suited to metaphor!
