I watched a good chunk of it, but somehow I doubt that as a result, RSF will change from anything but the ad hominem witch hunt of conservatives that it already is.

Agreed, and guilty in some instances. I really do think a lot of what passes for discussion and investigation is negated by the application of labels, but with fear vs sanity these comedians really capture what the key question is now for all people in western regions (if we want to maintain some sort of leadership role in the world). The nation state is being dissolved very slowly, but surely and as this identity is attacked people need a new one. I would suggest all people have two direct choices, either

follow the fear route and balkanise the whole damn world. Group ourselves using Religious, colour, political leanings , language, ethnicity naked capitalism etc

go the sane route and start adopting a global grouping. Things such as environmentalism, mutually beneficial global economics and even weird memes like fear of alien invasion :) point to the areas where we could create a global consciousness.

That is a debate worth having, and we could include all of the contentious issues within that framework. I know Machiavelli, my favourite author, would slap me and say the fear route is the only one that works, but perhaps with weaker nation states via globalisation, and moving towards a single consciousness where we are actually aware of the consequences of what we do, fear doesn't make much sense.

Ok it is monday morning so I suspect this post may not make much sense. :)

As a Darwinian natural selectionist, I cannot lend credibility to the whole one-world thing. Darn that whole game theory anyway.

^Seems that you lean towards a kind of social Darwinism. Dangerous ideology that.

I went . huge crowd but very lame in regards to not enough speakers for sound. Everyone was pretty disappointed it sounded like Charlie Brown's mom talking.

zenshiite,

Me??? Surely, thou jesteth. I'm one of those evil nasty Conservatives who'd rather fight to the death to protect the inherent value in the life of all individuals than to allow the Progressives' social Darwinism to take hold.

I went. It was a darn good time. Sadly even though I made it back home in time to vote my states new Governor is now Niki Haley. May she prove my assumptions wrong by governing in a reasonable way.
