Mystery Missile Launched Off Los Angeles Coast

Postby Bill on Tue Nov 09, 2010 12:12 pm

A video that appears to show a missile launch off the coast of California is so far "unexplained" by anyone in the military, a Pentagon spokesman told reporters Tuesday morning

Col. Dave Lapan said he is not able to concur with an official from North American Aerospace Defense Command/U.S. Northern Command who told Fox News earlier that there was "no threat to the homeland."

Lapan said the military doesn't know exactly what the so-called mystery missile was so can't say it's harmless.

A local CBS affiliate in Los Angeles on Monday evening captured on video the image of the "spectacular" projectile flying about 35 miles out to sea, west of Los Angeles and north of Catalina Island.

The Missile Defense Agency told Fox News it did not launch any test missile Monday night that could explain the dramatic images. The Navy and the Air Force were also unable to offer an explanation.

Lapan said it does not appear that whatever was flying was part of a "regularly scheduled missile test." He noted that before a missile test, notifications are sent to mariners and airmen. This does not appear to be the case here.

At this point, the military is working only with video taken from the local news camera, and NORAD and Northcom apparently were not able to detect the contrail on their own.

It appears from the video, Lapan said, the object was launched from the water and not U.S. soil, though at this point there is no way to be certain.

If a test missile or an accidental missile was launched in the region it would have either come from Naval Air Station Point Mugu or Vandenberg Air Force Base. At sea it could have come from a U.S. submarine or a surface ship. But so far, it all remains a mystery.

So our Navy doesn't know who fired it, what it is, but they tell us that it isn't a threat?

Could the Chinese be behind it?

Very Strange!!!

They're probably parked just off our coast, conducting missile drills and listening to our rock-n-roll.

The Missile Defense Agency told Fox News it did not launch any test missile last night that could explain the dramatic images. The Navy and the Air Force were also unable to offer an explanation.

"It does not appear that this was a regularly scheduled missile test", Lapan said. Before a missile test the military sends notifications to mariners, airmen, and air traffic controllers to stay clear of the area, and according to Lapan it doesn't appear those warnings were sent.

The FAA told Fox News it did not issue any license for a commercial launch. NASA also denied any involvement and said it is checking for any meteorite activity, although it's highly unlikely that is the source of these images.

John Cornelio, a spokesman for Northern Command and NORAD (North American Aerospace Defense Command) told Fox News Tuesday there is no threat to the homeland. "We are very confident this was not fired from a foreign military," Cornelio said. "That's not what we are working with."

Cornelio also cautioned the use of the term missile, saying that word suggests the launch of a weapon, which can't be confirmed.

If you weren't there, it is unlikely that you will ever know to your satisfaction what it was. Asking the military is silly. If they wanted you to know, they'd say. If they didn't want you to know, they'd say they didn't know. If it were something they thought would frighten the public, and they didn't know, they'd give a bs explanation --that could only be refuted by someone who was there or was connected.

Looks like some sort of unguided missile/rocket. It "could" be a contrail, but not from an aircraft at that angle. I'll bet that if the military will be able to establish about where it was launched from, and there should be some evidence on the ground.
