MMA technique discussion w/ GIFs - Machida Karate

Postby jwalker on Thu Nov 18, 2010 5:31 am

For fans of MMA and TMA here's some cool gifs and discussion of the unorthodox (for MMA) fighting style of Lyoto Machida.

http://www.bloodyelbow.com/2010/11/17/1819832/ufc-123-preview-quinton-rampage-jacksons-defense-vs-lyoto-machidas

I confess I'm quite a big Machida fan, I'm not sure why but I do enjoy his style, even when he KO'd my main man Thiago Silva, something I'm still emo about to this day. In any case I do enjoy seeing these TMA techniques discussed, there is even a mention of splitting and to my understanding its the same kind of splitting Pi Quan seeks to attain. To be honest I reckon this could be in the main forum but I'll leave that to the mods. Enjoy!

Good article and analysis. I like the use of gif's to make his points, rather than lengthy videos.
Machida is one of my favorite current fighters. I like his striking style since it is direct, and not wild looping punches like most MMA stylists out there.

Nice, but it annoys me the article doesn't actually tell you basic information, like when this fight is happening.

I give the edge to Machida simply because, imo, he has the style to figure out and counter Rampage's style. Of course, if QR can get to Machida, anything can happen. I

Man I am a huge fan of both fighters but Machida is just so much more technical and eats up the raw tough guys like rampage. Rampage has also lost his edge but not made up for it with technical talent. He could always get the lucky KO but it's unlikely. Shogun exposed Machidas low guard but no question Machida has worked on it. Rampage's boxing is not even close to Evans and Evans was schooled big time. Just hoping for a great match up.

Man, Rampage looked shocked at the judges' decision, lol! What were those guys smoking tonight? Well, good match by both guys though a little more action like in the 3rd round would've been much cooler

i agree. machida should have had the decision.
i guess we'll have to wait for the rematch.

what about bj penn? he was all fired up! i hope this means he'll start winning again, maybe at 170.

fight of the night for me was that very last one: barboza vs. lullo. man, barboza is VERY accurate and fast. lullo was going for some exotic submissions, but couldn't quite pull them off. barboza KILLED him with those leg kicks.

I agreed with the judges. I think Rampage was shocked due to his performance in the third round. But Rampage took rounds one and two IMO not just due to being the agressor, I think he controlled the fight more in the first two rounds. I also agree with Rogans comments that Rampage is fairly one dimensional compared to his contemporaries. But Machida needs to exploit that and I think he fought a horrible fight until the third round. Clearly he didnt fight like he did against Evans. Rampage actually was much more dynamic and using footwork as compared to his recent fights

I just watched UFC 123. I have to say...WTF. But I impressed by the sportsmanship and effort by everyone who fought that night. Those who think UFC guys have no class don't know what it means to give it your all and shake hands at the end of the night, no matter the call by the judges.
