If you see a thread dangling on the tattered tangled web they have woven, pull it to make such a thing undone.

Seriously, the time of neo-con fear distribution must end. I don't want to live in that world.
I am glad that the internet is burning those who deserve to get burned for their actions.

There was some talk that it would be difficult for the usa to gain trust now... I would say that after the last decade, that was a given.

That one led me back to Iraq Body Count: http://www.iraqbodycount.org/.

We should ALWAYS keep these numbers in mind.

The thing I found interesting reading around the subject was that this leak was pretty much due to the greater info sharing between agencies, post 9/11.

Anyways, the information will be free.

Iran is predominantly Shiite Muslim and as is known through the actions carried out in the region, there is no love lost between the two big sects of Islam.

It is also not news that Saudi Arabia doesn't like Iranian regional ascendency, or that Sunni and Shia don't get along at times (for its part, Saudi Arabia also has its own issue with a Shia minority who happen to live in oil-rich areas of the country), or that Persians and Arabs don't get along at times.

There are so many good books pertaining these subjects as well which are all in the public domain. 'The Looming Tower', 'Ghost Wars' and 'All the Shah's Men' come to mind but I'm guessing you probably have read them.

The main problems Saudi Arabia is having is that since the inception of the kingdom they have oppressed and restricted Shi'as there. They are getting fed up enough to start getting active about it. But the real problem is Wahhabi tyranny.

From its founder:

"There have been headlines all over the world about my being accused of rape. They won't just disappear," Assange acknowledged to Stockholm's Aftonbladet newspaper. "And I know by experience that WikiLeaks' enemies will continue to bandy around things even after they have been renounced. I don't know who is behind this, but we have been warned that, for example, the Pentagon plans to use dirty tricks to spoil things for us."

What do you think?

the saddest part is that people in the US still aren't mad enough to take it to the streets...

post 911, people are so whipped into the patriotic bull shit they'd rather take the lies to the grave rather than confront the pillaging that's been perpetrated upon us.

I like the registers approach to the whole leak. Nothing in the documents reveals anything we don't already know.
All it does is put faces and names to public policies and makes the U.S look slightly uncomfortable as the gossipy
side of international diplomacy is exposed.

One really interesting aspect is the rabid and almost medeival response of certain groups of people.. St Stephen Harpers assistant has just called for Assange to be assasinated, Palin has said he should be hunted down like an Al Qaida operative.. Huckabee says the death penalty isn;t good enough

wtf is wrong with all these people.. not a single one of the fuckers wants to address the content ..

Article from the guardian summed it up best

US embassy cables: The job of the media is not to protect the powerful from embarrassment

i'm putting this whole thread in the fuck you list

I find it interesting that the posts on this subject have by and large been in favor of the leaks, could it be that this forum has a liberal bent, or god forbid, is leaning towards socialism, or maybe it has a larger perdentage of people that look beyond the headlines and the media brainwashing.I know there are 'patriots' on the forum who have the same mindset as saint sarah, lets hear the other side of the argument

Stephen Harper is a despot and the Governor General supported him when he shut down the parliament. I don't get why the opposition didn't start an election process: they had so many chances.

I just don't get them.

i think it's more to do with accepting reality as it is without bullshit... and a little compassion from knowing what it feels like to have the shit beaten out of one repeatedly...

btrw I am actually not a commie red hun socialist....i believe in free markets and free movement of labour.. complete freedom and openness of all government information apart from military documents... full on power to all citizens, with the right of giving governments, big business and large concerns a rough ass fucking till they bleed enough to stop thinking they know what's good for us...
