I find this quest for immortality a bit creepy.

We should all take a lesson from Keith Floyd ;D

b.t.w. doesn't that Abdula guy train with Tim Cartmell? I'm sure I've seen him somewhere before...

We teach ourselves to fear the unknown and we resist change because we fear that too.

This is why people think they can take up some practice and then put off their own bodily degradation and death.

It is silly and it is demented to make that pursuit because it will result ultimately in failure.

However, if you approach with the attitude of keeping a good attitude and keeping healthy so you can enjoy your autumn years, that is far more healthy.

we have to stop teaching ourselves to be afraid all the time though. That is a necessary first step across cultures.

Personally Yog has never been my cup of tea but I might have to give it another look after seeing the picture above.

Of course, his life ends in tragedy - check out the Keith Allen documentary When Keith Met Keith. But he had a good time, for a long time before that.

The turritopsis nutricula species of jellyfish may be the only animal in the world to have truly discovered the fountain of youth.

Since it is capable of cycling from a mature adult stage to an immature polyp stage and back again, there may be no natural limit to its life span. Scientists say the hydrozoan jellyfish is the only known animal that can repeatedly turn back the hands of time and revert to its polyp state (its first stage of life).

The key lies in a process called transdifferentiation, where one type of cell is transformed into another type of cell. Some animals can undergo limited transdifferentiation and regenerate organs, such as salamanders, which can regrow limbs. Turritopsi nutricula, on the other hand, can regenerate its entire body over and over again. Researchers are studying the jellyfish to discover how it is able to reverse its aging process.

Because they are able to bypass death, the number of individuals is spiking. They're now found in oceans around the globe rather than just in their native Caribbean waters. "We are looking at a worldwide silent invasion," says Dr. Maria Miglietta of the Smithsonian Tropical Marine Institute.

So, immortality is possible ... but, there's a tradeoff :)

Just imagine the irony - the only way to live forever turns out to be to return to being a baby, at which point you forget who you are anyway and start again. So 'you' still dies.
