Oh no, a man made fun of a woman! How horrible.
Please grow up.
Guess what, it's ok to critisize women. They can take it.
How did liberals fall back into 1950's thinking. They have a need top protect this women from mean old Rush.

I love it how the men on this forum are the loudest voices against Women's health care issues. They're fine with insurance paying for viagra, prostate, and other male enhancement drugs, but birth control for women which is used for all kinds of things, including Ovarian cysts which can be cancerous, and other hormone issues? Good election strategy Republicans. :D Keep it up GUYS, Obama just jumped up to 18 point advantage with the Women's vote.

Here's the numbers from todays latest Wall Street Journal Poll: -- Read em and weep :D

President Obama, 50% approve of his job – his highest mark in the NBC/WSJ survey since Osama bin Laden’s death – and 45 percent disapprove. In a hypothetical general-election contest, he leads Romney by six points, (50 to 44) percent, winning independents (46-39 percent), women (55-37 percent) and those in the Midwest (52-42 percent).

Obama enjoys even bigger leads over Paul (50 to 42 percent), Santorum (53 to 39 percent), and Gingrich (54 to 37 percent).

The reality is Rush is a big boy and like Bill Maher when he lost Politically Incorrect these guys know when they're pushing it.

Also like Bill Rush will be back.

Saying that I still think if you're not going to give a sincere apology then don't give one at all.

Rush is apologizing because he's losing sponsors. That's capitalism.

Sure, women can take it. If Rush had called all ___ women sluts, that'd be one thing. But, he's a public figure. It's wrong for him to single out an individual and ridicule her publicly. Sure, she could stay out of the public light. That sounds like what some guys say when a woman complains about being raped. I.e., "her" actions justified what "he" did. To me, what Rush said about the woman was pure cowardice. When commentators said things about Bristol Palin, they were wrong. She didn't deserve it; and she doesn't have to take it. Hey, if I called one of my students a slut because she wanted to testify about something, I might get fired. But, like I said, I think it's better to allow him to say his piece openly.

You really have to get over the old 'rushing to the aid of a fair damsel' thing.
She went in front of congress and in doing so put herself out in the public eye and is open to be criticized.
There is no right to be free of criticism.

Calling a woman a slut --for her opinion as a public person-- isn't quite the same as criticism, in my book. And, yeah, I guess it's kind of a chivalry thing. But, fwiw, if somebody said such about my wife, daughter or mom because of a political position they took, I think it'd be worth a punch in his face. Can't explain it if ya don't understand. Maybe I'm old school; but, I know a few old-fashioned guys who'd take a beatin' for that. Ymmv.

She wasn't criticised, she was attacked and lied about. Criticising her message would be totally fair... and could easily be done without an unwarranted personal attack. You are right that people know, or should, that this is one of the dangers of standing up in public. And I'm sure she did know that... but there's nothing out of line about fighting back, or about others supporting her. Raising the personal human cost of standing up for what you believe in is usually more of a tactic to avoid criticism of another's POV rather than an honest attempt to deal with the issues.

It doesn't take too much insight to observe and comprehend that even on an Internet forum like this, ad hominem attacks are counterproductive and considered to be trolling. Attacking ideas is appropriate, but attacking individuals is not. It only serves to draw attention away from legitamate discussion and debate of issues.

Why would or should it be any different in a public aural-oral discourse, than for a written one? Ad hominem attacks are a low form of behavior.

In addition, there is an asymetrical relation between Fluke's "power" as a public individual (to attempt to speak before a House or Senate committee) and the power of a radio personality. If Rush were just a guy on RSF calling Hillary a ditchpig, ok. That's just insulting and stupid. It's like a bunch of guys at a bar. Otoh, if the Pres. would have called ... pick a Palin or Bachmann or Coulter a "slut" on his radio address, I don't believe for one second that the response would be, "Aw, women should just lighten up."

Now, if the President called Rush or his wife a slut, I guess that would be okay, right? (Not directed at you, Interloper).

So yieldingx, I assume that you will also call for Bill Maher to go as well, since he has made misogynistic comments on his show:

Maher has called Palin a “dumb twat” and dropped the C-word in describing the former Alaska governor. He called Palin and Congresswoman Bachmann “boobs” and “two bimbos.” He said of the former vice-presidential candidate, “She is not a mean girl. She is a crazy girl with mean ideas.” He recently made a joke about Rick Santorum’s wife using a vibrator.

http://www.weeklystandard.com/blogs/will-obama-super-pac-return-misogynist-bill-mahers-million-dollar-donation_633200.html
After all, if it's wrong for one side to do this, then it's also wrong for the other side, right?
