Chud is right that if it's wrong for one side to do something it's also wrong for the other side. And BTW, it should make no difference if it's a man or woman attacking or being attacked. There are a lot of serious and critical issues to be dealt with out there, and I gotta admit I yearn to see people try to deal with them like adults and citizens instead of kids in highschool. Personal attacks only serve to further divide people, and if we get divided beyond a certain point it will be fatal for democracy. Demonizing issues and opponents keeps affairs on a highly emotional level, avoiding analyzing the matter sensibly and finding fair compromises. Compromise is vital for a democracy.

I'm still thinking that it's a bit different to attack a public figure than to attack a private citizen who isn't a celebrity or politician.

The problem is Bill Maher doesn't have sponsors. He's on HBO and people pay to watch him.

Bill Maher did lose Politically Incorrect when FEDEX pulled their sponsorship for his comments after 9-11.



Again the way I see it people should be able to say what they want to. But if sponsors feel that something is said in poor taste there's no reason why they should continue to sponsor that show.

Also Karel was fired for this comment. So please let's not try to turn this into, "The left can do this but the right can't." The corporations are calling the shots.

Just to add to Gzregorz comments. Bill Maher's a comedian. He's always been known for being a comedian. In case you don't know, Bill does stand-up all around the country. When he's on MSNBC, CNN, or anywhere else, he's introduced as a comedian with a political bent. Whether you approve or not, comedians say things like that all the time. Ever watch Joan Rivers stand up, or George? On the other hand, Rush has a "public" radio show, sponsored by public/private companies who pay to advertise on his show. Anybody can listen to Rush's show for free on the radio, but you can NOT watch Bill Maher unless you pay for it on HBO specifically.

Bill Maher's HBO show, which is where he said those things, does NOT have direct advertisers, hence, he answers to no one but HBO. I guess you didn't catch Tracy Morgan's HBO standup act a few months back? He's funny as hell but absolutely filthy and says some wild stuff, and so does Full Houses' Bob Saget's last special. HBO has soft-porn for crying out loud, and promotes shows like "Cathouse" , "Real Sex" , and a few other sexual-related shows. Now, If you don't want to hear his remarks then DON'T BUY IT. Or, in Rush's case, his advertisers can pull their ads.

I personally don't like that kind of talk, even from Bill Maher, but since he says those kinds of things (not often) on HBO, and if HBO doesn't like it, they can pull his show. Obviously they haven't. But, I can also understand why many people wouldn't shed a tear for these particular women (Palin and Bachmann) after watching them for the last 4 years visciously attack Obama's family, his birth, his WIFE, his religion, calling him anti-American, "a threat to America," a Socialist, a Muslim (like that's a bad thing) and more. With that said, you'd never catch me saying things like that out loud, but then again I don't have my own HBO show either.

That's obvious, except that, as usual, the tendency isn't to say something is right or wrong, it's to say the other side is "just as bad." Which is just another way to excuse what was wrong in the first place.

But, cut it any way they like, for a person with a million listeners to personally attack someone with no radio station behind her is cowardly. How was she supposed to fight back? Secondly, for an admitted drug addict to condemn a particular woman for doing what millions of American (Republican and Catholic) women do --and millions of American men, including Rush, wants women in other countries to do-- is just another example of the hypocrisy.

Btw, Sarah Palin and Bachmann were called lots of things, and Geraldine Ferraro and Hillary Clinton were called worse. I was around when Ferraro was running, and I was here on RSF when Hillary was running. But, these were all truly public figures; though, I frankly don't recall any of them being accused of being a prostitute or being asked for nude photos or sex videos. Rush was, imo, just disgusting. Btw, Ed Schultz was suspended from his show for calling someone a slut.

Afa personal attacks in politics, , okay when the Democrats stop, I'm sure the Republicans will follow. But, it's totally Orwellian double-think to turn this into an example of the problem with the Democrats. Anyway, like I said, it seems that calling a woman a slut is ok, if it's not a woman I hold dear. But, fwiw, I think that a guy who has four wives, or even three is also a slut whore, or was at some point. If I had the cash, I'd fly blimps over the country blinking that about Rush and Newt. I mean, at least we know it's true.

Missouri House Speaker Steve Tilley, a Republican, still went ahead and picked Rush to be inducted into the Hall of Famous Missourians later this year based, in part, that Rush is from Tilley's area of the state. Tilley has already commissioned sculptor E. Spencer Schubert to create a bust of Limbaugh to be placed in the Hall which is in the third floor rotunda of the Missouri Capitol. The Hall honors prominent Missourians for their contributions and achievements to the state.

Ain't that sweet? Missourians must be so proud of their man child Rush. I'm sure in 100 years, they'll be talking about Rush like he was some great humanitarian too. Imagine making 50 MILLION A YEAR for this dribble?

To be honest I think Rush could have got away with the slut comments. The problem he's having is telling women who think contraception should be covered by health insurance to put videos of themselves having sex on the net.

Well, I dunno. One is slanderous; the other is just scandalous. I.e., just not something that one says in polite company. (Yeah, of course, it's a free country; a person can walk into a public library and start "f-in this n that" in a loud voice. It doesn't reflect on the library patrons, though).

However, I don't think it's just the word that has caused the ruckus. Though, when Imus called the (black) basketball team "hos," it cost him his job --or, at least earned him a vacation. It's not exactly what Rush said; it's the clear perception --especially among women-- that he doesn't really care about them at all. Yeah, he'd deny it; he'd say he's married four lovely women, etc. That's not what I mean. This woman was as representative of All American women as Sarah Palin was. Even the President (Chaplain) of her Catholic college (Georgetown) could see that she was being ... bullied, I think is the best term.

Reminds me of "The Help," but more profoundly the bus boycotts of the 50s. It was an entire movement started by women (those black ladies who had to take the bus to work in the suburbs). They were the first ones to decide to take to their feet rather than put up with segregated services. I think it will be women who will decide the upcoming election; and that's why Rush had to be shunned ... for now. If women started saying, "Oh, you support him? Ok, I'll show you!"

As several commentators have said, the reason there's no outcry from the "right" is because they're all scared shitless of Rush. But watch, if Rush keeps losing advertisers, they'll fear that'll translate into voters; and they'll pounce on him like nobody's business.

Limbaugh misrepresented Ms Fluke in many ways knowing what he was saying was false. i.e dishonest, slanderous, libelous.
If that is what those who represent Christian moral views then one should eschew them just like Jesus eschewed the money launders in the temple and saying Jesus is against making money!
I cannot stand that type of morility on a platform of those who claim to be Christian, patriots and fathers who have daughters! Unacceptable.

While people might not want to "think that Limbaugh represents Christianity", there is rarely any objection when people with even more horrifically Christofascist views start telling people what "Christianity" demands. As such, Limbaugh is now considered to be a relatively moderate, possibly even "liberal", Christian viewpoint.

Wow, 35 Sponsors have dropped Rush Limbaugh so far (more coming)!! The Girl Scouts too. Even the band RUSH, asked Limbaugh to stop playing their music on his radio show. Could this be Rush's demise? ... Dare to dream...

Companies are continuing to join the rapidly growing list of businesses that have ceased advertising on Limbaugh’s show, responding to the flood of grievances that are pouring in from disgruntled customers.
