that seemed more about misdirection to me.

I could certainly be mistaken but it looked to me like the owl lured the rattler to strike while it remained just out of range and then moved in as the rattler was recoiling to strike again.

it was a red-tailed hawk. and it lured the rattler to strike it's wing, so it was some position and timing as well. frankly, I'm most surprised the hawk didn't just drop out of the sky and take out the rattler from above. though i suppose if he misses the head, the rattler will turn around and bite him.

when i was younger i used to work on a dairy farm on and off. hooves hurt. so do horns.
