Failed assassination attempt from today

Postby jonathan.bluestein on Sat Jan 19, 2013 8:44 am

The bodyguards had no clue as to how to eliminate the threat and control the assassin. Everyone panicked and acted like little children...

The only one who reacted well (compared to his abilities) was the guy that was to be assassinated, who immediately tried controlling the hand with the gun.

The holding down of the assassin was pathetic:

Where's Julian Assange? Wasn't this "suspect" treated unfairly? They beat the crap out of him!

Seriously, I think one has to question this "assassination attempt." He could have shot him from a distance. He had plenty of time to pull the trigger.

Murder is often a personal thing, and so has been this particular act. When the Israeli prime-minister Yitshak Rabin was assassinated in 1995, the murderer was a religious nut, and took Rabin's political actions all too personally... So he shot him from less than a meter away. When a murderer kills out of vengeance or another 'personal' agenda, the action always looks different. People even tend to hold knives and stab with them differently.

Here is the news story from BBC:

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-21103987

Ahmed Dogan attacked by armed assailant in Bulgaria

A man put a gun to the head of the leader of Bulgaria's ethnic Turkish party during a televised conference.
Ahmed Dogan, leader of the Movement for Rights and Freedoms (MRF) was unharmed and the unidentified man was wrestled to the ground by security guards.

The incident happened on Saturday at a party congress in the capital Sofia.

Interior Minister Tsvetan Tsvetanov said the attacker tried to fire two shots but "most likely the gun misfired".
He also said the assailant had a criminal record for drugs possession, robberies and hooliganism.

Police arrested the attacker, a 25-year-old from the Black Sea town of Burgas, who was also carrying two knives.
The liberal MRF party represents ethnic Turks and other Muslims, who make up about 12% of Bulgaria's population of about seven million.

Mr Dogan, 58, has led the party for almost 25 years. He returned to the party conference a few hours after the attack and was given a standing ovation.

President Rosen Plevneliev said in a statement: "Bulgarian society is traditionally known for its tolerance, mutual acceptance and respect between different ethnic groups and religions.

"Such an act is unacceptable in a democratic state."

Attacks on politicians are rare in Bulgaria, but in 1996, former Prime Minister Andrei Lukanov was found shot dead near his home in Sofia.

Can anyone translate? Probably "kick him." "ok stop."

I thought the leader did ok to try, but was very lucky.

Looked like a pretty fast reaction by his security, though that does not explain how the chap got up onto the stage. I don't think the excited blokes who were putting the boot in were security - more likely, supporters of the intended assassinee. There is one guy who pins him, who seems to know what he is doing, while everyone else is filling him in.

During the Cold War, Bulgaria was known for its highly effective assassins: It was a Bulgar who killed the guy on London bridge with the infamous "poison umbrella."

I'd guess his gat was a .22, which the Israelis use (or used to use) for whacks. Very small and easily concealed, but requires you to get very close and get a headshot. Bad luck for the assassin/good luck for his target that it misfired twice.

An acquaintance of mine who was very senior in special forces - he was the guy who invented the modern "killing house" - used to carry a .22. One of his instructors looked it over and said, "John, this is good only for cloakroom and lavatory work!" The latter bloke, FYI, was on the FBI team who shot Dillinger.

Pure luck in the beginning. Later the security should also control the mob. It's really interesting how everybody rushed in to try to get a shot on him.

That's a hell of an political statement. About like shooting a gun with flag that unfurled and said "Bang". Curious as to what the backlash from the "assassin" will be. Seems almost too convenient actually.
