Not a bad primer in the functions of the human (bipedal) spine. It's the first step toward understanding the mechanics of groundpath, cross-alignment of body mass to avoid committing weight/center to one side of the body, and the exploitation of the dynamic tension of opposing forces to effect both structural stability and power.

In other words, internal power and structural stability are the result of our ability to use mental intent to manipulate the physical features as described in the above discourse on tensegrity.

when i started doing tai chi and thought that arm waving while feeling the chi - on acid - was the fast road to awesome internal power

i don't know if this is bddt...

here's a wikipedia link
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tensegrity - not so useful for ima.

here's a bit on anatomy trains - some anatomical research using tensegrity principles. useful for ima training.
http://www.anatomytrains.com/explore/tensegrity

my understanding of tensgrity is that it better describes how the body's structure actually works. if the 'beam' model is applied to our spine, then raising our arm would crush our vertebra.

in architecture school i studied with a lightweight structures luminary, interesting, but kinda cultish at the time. now we're seeing more and more applications of these super efficient building methods.

i personally find the anatomy trains stuff useful.

i apologize if this is btdt, i haven't read the whole thread, kinda busy.

best regards,

wiesek- ? really?

I spent years, literally, with Medewiwin teachers learning from them.
I wonder where these people were that were in the documentary you speak about.

And why would they go to russia when the mystic lodges are still quite well and functioning in North America and in Central and South as well.
But then I guess if they start out as pretenders, how could they know? lol

still i'd be interested to see that.

People put a lot of the Discovery stuff up on the web. If you look for it, it's probably listed on someone's blog with a link to rapidshare download or a torrent.
