This part of Polish history always irritated me,

And he received tacit support from Stalin, too. Actually, it was 75 years ago almost to the day that Hitler invaded Poland (7/1/39).

The narrative was that Putin was doing this because the world perceives Obama as weak.

Europe and most of the world has been complaining forever about America sticking our beak in all the time. Now that we finally have a POTUS who has taken our combat troops out of Iraq and seems poised to do so in Afganistan, and who also didn't fire rockets into Syria...

The problem with President Obama and the Syria situation is that he talked tough and then did nothing (no military response).
I was in favor of staying out of Syria btw, but when Obama gave the impression that he was gonna do something and then backed off he lost respect as a leader.
That is why Putin is sending troops and flying helicopters into Ukraine with no concern about a US response; he is not afraid of Obama at all (or Europe for that matter).

Not quite on the mark, but close.

This law, which was signed in to being last week by Medvedev bans from obtaining a driving license for operating road vehicles, people designated as having "personality disorders" including those of a sexual nature and who are under psychiatric care for their condition or have otherwise been diagnosed by a psychiatrist/psychologists and are undergoing care or treatment. The "sexual nature" aspect is defined as transsexualism, transvestism, fetishism, exhibitionism, voyeurism, necrophilia, paedophilia. Though this law will also apply to people diagnosed with a wide range of mental disorders from kleptomania, to gambling addiction to depression.

Gays are not affected. Nor are any of the above mentioned, unless they are registered with a "personality disorder" under a psych and/or receiving treatment.

As to having new drivers with such disorders on the road, frankly I think its a bit too broad and I doubt it will have any significant impact on road safety, which is the purpose of this whole exercises. Russia's roads are dangerous because of drunks and general idiocy, sure, having mental people on the road with brand new licences doesn't help, but its hardly the root cause.


On another, unrelated note, I'm seeing more and more of that Ciroc stuff you mentioned previously. Seems to be quite widely available since Xmas, even the small supermarket near my place has it behind the counter. I haven't managed to get a close look yet, but there are 2 types, a red and blue version.
