lol. yeah, we didn't think they'd catch on either...in 1980! lol but by 1987, there they were. the loonies!

now we have 1 and 2 dollar coins and damned if they ain't handy and a lot less of a pain in the ass than a bunch of loose 1 dollar bills.

Agreed.
Coinage for small change is much more convenient than having a wallet full of small bills.

disagree. I hate the larger currency coins in Japan. My wallet needs a change purse and can double as a sap.

It ain't a matter of one or the other. Everybody has coins and bills. The question is how big or small? Should we get rid of pennies? What can you buy for 1? Otoh, a $2 coin might make less sense (no pun intended) than $5 coin might.

You guys aren't serious about a bunch of coins being more convenient, right?

If anything, the world is moving more and more towards being a cash-less society. Any attempt at trying to bring back coin money in the age of the bill, the check, and the credit card is silly. You can't even fully cover a purchase at the dollar store with one of those coins anyway so what's the use?

Hey, you got that right about the Japanese coin currency. You can't do anything at all with those 1 yen coins. I would save up the 10 yen coins for densha rides but that's about all they're good for.

I'm hoping they bring back the $20 gold eagle...

The $20.00 Gold eagle is still there, it's just worth about $1000.00 now, regardless of the value it has stamped on it.

a Gold dime is around $100.00 now.
