A lot of foreigners who come here are totally unaware of most of this even after being here for a couple of years, probably because they're focusing on the good bits and enjoying a strange status as an off-worlder among the natives.

I'll comment by the points he raised:

4. Food - meat was so tasty, I just want to imagine it was real pork and chicken ^_^ But at least at some places I say them physically making it...

3. "Inefficiency Permeates Every Aspect of Daily Life" - Oh yeah, that's crazy... and indeed, banks are the worst :-( I had to go to 4 (!!) different bank branches until they found someone who could explain to me that albeit my credit card having a 4 digit code, and the ATMs strictly demanding a 6 digit code, it'll work anyhow :-P

2. "White People Are Fashion Accessories" - Oh yeah... That one time I walked into Pizza Hut, and was promptly escorted by 4 overzealous waiters for the reminder of my stay, with them making sure everyone's watching how they serve the laowai. A Latvian friend got to play Sherlock Holmes in a commercial because he was white :D

1. Well that's just too crazy... I hadn't a clue...

I think I'll just drop this here:

Officials at the Hubei province once famously ordered government employees to smoke more cigarettes to boost the local economy.

That's a good one!
