I can't imagine what Obama's thinking is; at this point in his administration he has descended into the realm of the ridiculous.

:) So, you can't tell whether he was just being weak or uncaring, but it was ridiculous? Or, do you mean that either way, it would have been ridiculed? Do you think it was ridiculous for him to send them in to rescue J. Foley/

It appears to me that President Obama is the last person in the US Govt preventing the war hawks from doing humanitarian bombing in Syria the way they did for Libya. There is no logic or coherency to the US foreign policy in Europe and the Middle East now, so it makes any public statements difficult, which is how Kerry got undermined by Russian Foreign Minister Lavrov on the chemical weapons issue in September 2013, where eventually diplomacy was used in preference to more bombing.

Considering any practical alternatives, such as a neocon Republican, who might very well have done something differently to save this young woman, but would be much more likely to expand the wars, eventually to Iran, I think Obama is preferable until a better choice is available. I prefer to criticize the real war hawks like Kerry, Susan Rice, McCain, Hillary, Romney, etc.

Who is "we"?
The world is run by big corporations that want to make profit no matter what. The only time that they do something good for peasants is when it happens to be profitable or when they feel the angry peasants might threaten their existence. Destroying this IS thing is easy but first you need to convince them that it makes profit for them. So far I think keeping someone like IS around is very profitable for them.

Just to add, if there is a visible enemy, it is easy to propagandize realty.....This is good for business, the military industrial complex and all those who see monetary or destabilization within this chaos.
Lest we forget, McCain wanted to arm people like al Baghdadi and he met with him on his trip but no one blinks an eye in this regard.Business as usual...........

I feel the same way. I suppose if Syria had oil things would be different.

Interesting to see Kurdish women are rising to the ocassion. Not really focussed on ISIS but interesting to see the role women are playing.
