Not sure if this is anything to do with age, more to do with technique: Simply put, the old fella could box, the young guy could not.

He had no defense - no guard, no bob, no weave. He even turned his back on him, which is a classic beginner's error.

I think both points are valid but the young lad wouldn't have been able to cope with him even if he had taken it more seriously, so more to do with experience and technique and less to do with the intent, although this added to the ass wooping he received as he had no idea what was coming and was very blasé. Like you said, turning his back, dropping his guard, underestimating his opponent, all pretty basic stuff. More the fool him.

And beautifully immortalized on the Internet for time immemorial . . . I'm so glad it 'net and cheap video cameras weren't around when I was young and foolish.

Maybe the point about being an old fella is that he doesn't have the time to mess around, and he knows how to end the fight :)
It's hard to say whether the young guy would do better in a 3 minute bout. Otoh, ime, it's rare for non-sports fights to last 3 minutes. It takes planning.

But, I also think that the "old guy" in the vid is a ringer. He might have been ranked or even a champ in his younger days.

As an old fella, I had a new hero after watching that clip but I also wondered if the young fellow had been set-up by his buddies as a little joke. Martial artists often have that somewhat sadistic sense of humour [i.e., To a beginner with a bad attitude: "Yeah, teacher doesn't mind if you attack him suddenly from behind, he likes to be surprised."
