test women in Marine infantry course asked to leave

Postby windwalker on Fri Oct 24, 2014 8:46 pm

Just weeks after three women passed a rigorous day-long test qualifying them to potentially lead US Marine infantrymen for the first time in history, news came that all three women have been asked to leave the course.

They were physically disqualified from the training last week for falling behind in hikes while carrying loads of upwards of 100 pounds, says Maj. George Flynn, director of the Infantry Officers Course (IOC) at Quantico, Va.

why is this not a surprise?

at some point they will try to change the rules to allow them in.
bad idea........ :-\

never understood why todate no study done has ever validated that this is a good idea, and yet they keep trying to make it so.

“Few serious armies use women in combat roles. Israel, which drafts most of its young women and uses them in all kinds of military work, has learned from experience to take them out of combat zones. Tests show that few women have the upper-body strength required for combat tasks.

Here's a similar sort of article: http://www.strategypage.com/htmw/htmurph/articles/20141017.aspx

I think anyone with commonsense can see the truth in these articles.

the marines are refusing to play along. The marines are pointing out that the research does not support the political demands and that actually implementing the quotas could get people killed while degrading the effectiveness of the units involved. This is yet another reason why many politicians do not like the marines.

from the article/
having served in Inf. units. there are a lot of males that cant cut the training either.
any test done that is not gend. normed has always borne out what most would instinctively know, or know if they had ever served.
its not just about them being able to handle the training there are a host of other issues as well that are not really addressed, all of which would tend to detract from
the combat effectiveness of the units involved.

Kind of OT but did you know the marines will recruit someone with an ASVAB test score of 25, while the army's lowest accepted score is 26?

Some educated/ smart kids are joining the marines, thinking the marines are the best, only to find themselves surrounded by morons in combat. :D

the MOS ""Military Occupational Specialty" is called BB

also known as " Bullet Blocker" , dont need much for it.
recommended for those seeking excitment, thrills & adventure

lets hope some of those
morons in combat

dont live by you and read RSF
they might want to educate others about what "combat"
means.

Politicians have been trying to do this for some time but it is a lost cause.
I have seen a few women on PSD teams but they tend to fall outside the 'small' circle.

There are the Female Engagement teams (FET) military light as they do not engage but their role is to search the womens' areas/quarters in Iraq and Afghanistan. They have returned fire, providse cover and suppression fire but TTPs is not part of their mission. Of course, they qualify with small arms and M4/M16!

My recollection when I joined in 1986 was that the Marines accepted ASVAB scores at 30 or 31, which was two or three points below the Army. The most senseless and stupid behavior always came from the officers, who apparently go through the most careful sifting process in order to find just the right personality types to not only obey orders blindly, but to zealously believe in those orders, and then receive even more extensive brainwashing than the enlisted Marines. Butterbars might make a good movie title.

Every Marine who has managed to survive life in a combat zone anywhere in the world can thank such so-called morons, his fellow Marines, for the chance to come home alive, and Western civilization as we now know it wouldn't have survived two World Wars or numerous other threats since then except for the selfless and heroic efforts of such so-called morons.

In the civilian world, these alleged morons would most likely be the only men willing to assist you in an emergency or the only men willing to stand with you in a fight when the odds of probable victory don't look so good. So even if you don't respect what they do in the line of their duty, you should at least respect the courage and determination required to do the job.

And BTW, the Marines ARE the best. Devil Dogs Rule! Never doubt it. ;)

OMFG

You guys do realize that with recruitment at an all time low that standard minimum ASVAB scores for army is 31, marines 32, but the recruiters are forced to make exceptions and the marines are now taking guys who can't even get in the army now.

But, whatever...

Nope. Having had cancer is an automatic lifetime disqualification, although my recruiter did some research and there was a possible loophole to get into an administration-only job in the Navy, but he wasn't certain on that.

I imagine somewhere there is a lady or two who can pass the infantry course on their own merit, but it will always be a handful of individuals and certainly not enough to make it a regular thing.

I have worked with some of the FET ladies and while they are very professional, and hand chosen in most cases, the are certainly not humping it like a line infantry unit.

But hey in the kinder gentler world politics always trumps biology, right?

Perhaps these idealistic qualities are sought by military recruiter and can express themselves as blind obedience to orders, but also as steadfast loyalty to friends.
