My gritty fantasy book available on Amazon

Postby fuga on Thu Nov 13, 2014 1:00 pm

As some of you may remember, I shared a free fantasy short story on the forum last year.

For those who enjoyed it, I want to let you know that I have released a new gritty fantasy novella that would appeal to fans of Joe Abercrombie, Robert E. Howard, and David Gemmell.

It's an ebook and available on Amazon (and at least two forum members have already read it).

http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00OQU0VBS

Thanks!

PS - The next book in the series will be released in December.

Just bought it for my kindle. I look forward to reading it.

Thanks, Deus. Enjoy.

I-mon, you can access the free story here: http://peterfugazzotto.com/jiro/ which will then take you to the site where it was published. If you sign up for the email list (I don't spam!), I'll send you another free story.

I want to let folks know that for today and tomorrow The Witch of the Sands is free on Amazon. Price will go back up after Saturday. If you like watching Games of Thrones or Vikings, this will appeal to you.

http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00OQU0VBS

Here's a synopsis of the novella:
Shield Scyldmund captured his prize: the bloody head of a desert chieftain. But despite the promise of desperately needed coins, the aging swordsman is disturbed.

After two decades of hunting down deadly witches and warlocks for the Dhurman Empire, Shield and his ruthless band of mercenary Northmen have been reduced to common bounty hunters in the burning sands of Hopht.

Their coin is running out. His men are talking of deserting and returning to the North.

Even worse, Shield can no longer pursue his consuming vengeance against the magic wielders who murdered his father.

On top of that, Shield is haunted by a vision of Birgid Wordswallow, the witch he once loved.

So when Shield and his sword brothers are called away from the chaotic pillaging of the last walled city to hunt down a witch, Shield thinks things might take a turn for the better.

But hunting a witch is never as simple as it seems...

Thanks, and reviews on Amazon (or here) are appreciated.

I've always wondered this about fantasy novels.... how do you come up with the names of characters?
One does not simply post on RSF.

Graham, for the names, I tend to place the characters by region or culture (for example, Norse) and then either do searches for baby names or find historical or literary figures. With these names, I then change them to what fits with the story. Scyldmund was drawn from Beowulf. The names are one of the harder parts for me.

Patrick, I'm actually not familiar with the Witcher series. I am more well read in Howard and Gemmell and the recent Grimdark authors. Who wrote the Witcher series?

Wiesek, :)

Hey fuga,

its a very popular fantasy series (and one of my favourite ones) by the polish author Andrzej Sapkowski. It was even made into a fantastic three parts pc game :)

- His profession is unpopular and is considered obsolete in the "modern world".
- He has often not much coins because work can be rare or he does not want to take jobs that are in his eyes immoral (He does not want to be reduced to a common bounty hunter).
- He is in love with a mighty witch.
etc.
