The Gods of Wall Street

ironic, isn't it?

Image

ONE: 'You shall have no other gods before Me.'

TWO: 'You shall not make for yourself a carved image--any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth.'

THREE: 'You shall not take the name of the LORD your God in vain.'

FOUR: 'Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy.'

FIVE: 'Honor your father and your mother.'

SIX: 'You shall not murder.'

SEVEN: 'You shall not commit adultery.'

EIGHT: 'You shall not steal.'

NINE: 'You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor.'

TEN: 'You shall not covet your neighbor's house; you shall not covet your neighbor's wife, nor his male servant, nor his female servant, nor his ox, nor his donkey, nor anything that is your neighbor's.'

Islam interprets it as forbidding painting and sculpting of natural subjects. Abstract art is allowed.

PS:

This commandment may be better put in context. I think that it has to do with creating idols. It can be interpreted as a warning against trying to give any form to God, mentally, which leads to worshipping an image, be it mental or real.

You know, those 10 commandments is the highly abridged edition.

sort of pared down for the masses.

IIRC there are almost 300 of the things in the Pentateuch. There are also many "shoulds" as well as the traditional "shouldn'ts"

I know, and it does. I've read most of the Bible... That was just an attempt at a joke...

when we start to mistake the representation of a thing for the thing itself is when it all goes a bit sideways.

LOL! That's a better shot. I can see where people must rub the bulls balls.

Anybody have comments on the hypocrisy of these guys?

I imagine what they think about shreading our consitution. I just thought the 10 commandments would hold more weight.

In the words of New Model Army,
"Mammon is a jealous master, leaves no room for any other"
Why does man Kill? He kills for food.
And not only food: frequently there must be a beverage.

Actually more like 613. If you meant that there are almost 300 prohibitions then the number is actually 365 but since the "big 10" include both negative and positive, I figured you must mean commandments in general.

248 positive (thou shalt....):

365 negative (thou shalt not...):
http://www.yeshuatyisrael.com/mitzvot2.htm

So yeah, the big 10 is just a concise list of the basics.
