fruit juice questions

Postby mixjourneyman on Thu Nov 06, 2008 6:42 am

I've broken out the juicer machine recently and have been really enjoying fruit and veg juice.
I've been putting a lot of ginger in. I'm just wondering how much ginger is too much and if it has any health side effects if you eat a lot.
Also why does the juice make me feel so damn good like two minutes after I drink it?

So Mix, how much ginger you using per volume of juice? Darth, what do you think about that? I never thought about tossing ginger into the mix.

Sheee-itt! What an awesome, double entendre pun I just made.

Oddly enough Ginger is my sister.

Her full name can be made into a very racist anagram. PM for details if you want.

I think that up in Canada, ginger is a great addition. Too much can be too strong of a taste and can definitely lead to a hot belly. But it does warm you and raises neutral heat within you.

I personally hold to the idea that too much of anything is bad, but, I do like ginger and have used it in apple juices before.

I believe ginger is good and too much will taste like too much. Try cinnamon too. It has proven health benefits and is great in a smoothie. I use about heaping 1/2 teaspoon per smoothie.

Carrot, apple and ginger = crazy delicious.

Also - apple, wheatgrass and a tiny bit of ginger or not.

i have a juicer as well. i normally mix carrot, apple, orange and ginger (piece size of thumb) and it has a nice zing. you dont want to add to much. if you get ill add a clove of garlic.

in Cali they make Banbados- i cant spell it right but they use- apples, oranges, celery, cucumber, blueberry , strawberry, beat (purple veggie) carrots- its awesome you feel high after drinking it.

I made five liters of apple, celery, and carrot juice last night, but didn't add ginger. I think I'll need to retrofit at least one bottle. I suppose here on the Tropic of Cancer I won't need to raise my neutral heat too much :)

maybe it was just a bad year, but when i was in zhuhai, the winter was wet and nasty... and not in the good sense of the terms.

slightly less off topic - beet juice turns your poop purple... which is of course a great way to get your kids to drink beet juice.

just to clarify.
neutral heat is neither wet nor dry.

wet heat is like what is going on when you have a chest cold and a slight temperature rise from a virus. You combat this with Yin raising things, cooling foods, herbs, kungs, what have you.

A dry heat is even worse (imo) and is also combated with Yin etc.

You can have too much yang due to accumulation of Yang or dues to deficiency of Yin.
If you eat and drink with variety and moderation, for the most part your diet will work well with your body in self correction of yin and yang flux within.

Yeah affa, the winters here are bizarre. Sitting at the same latitude as Honolulu, it is wet and cold and goes right through you. Add the lack of heating, insulation, or even moderately windproof windows and door jams and it's cold here.

Thanks for the info, Darth.
