What happens to Mexico's economy if the US legalizes the drugs? ..... What effect would that then have on the US?

When marijuana is legalized in (more states in) the U.S., it drops the price of marijuana in Mexico because the supply increases and the product is produced here. That makes marijuana less profitable as a cash crop in Mexico. It makes more sense to deal in drugs that are hard to get: and the harder they are to get, the more valuable they become to the people who want them. Do people in Mexico depend on the US-American drug demand? In general, no. Marijuana growing is illegal; so, that's why there's crime and competition. If it were legal, and the Mexican gov't profited directly, then legalization in the US would certainly affect the Mexican economy.

But, the US pays Mexico to fight a war on drugs. So, it means that some people make a living because marijuana use is illegal. Hey, we pay Afghanis not to grow poppies. Then the warlords pay them more to grow them.

It's tragic, they also killed everyone else there even if they had nothing to do with any of it. Scary times!

In my op this can be solved only by an intervention by the US. They can solve this with ease, but they are just not interfering because it’s a foreign country. It’s been long since cartels started killing anyones who opposed them, and it needs to stop.

On another note, I’m totally against legalizing marijuana. The right and useful way of using marijuana is through an inhaler or using cannabis oil. Smoking weed can cause cancer, period. And with the THC ratings, it is highly addictive, maybe not as addictive as heroin or cocaine or alcohol, but addictive nevertheless. Some treatment centers also offer rehabs for marijuana addiction ( There is one listed on the Canada Rehab Reviews site- Marijuana addiction treatment centers)

recreational smokers are like smoking weed is their birthright and it needs to be legalized whatever the consequences. I completely agree with Bao's comment above.
