Word Press Help?

Postby Simon on Fri Jul 24, 2015 7:04 pm

Hi all.

I just this week got Word Press set up to start a bit of a blog and training site but was looking at themes and now all of a sudden I am locked out of admin with the following message:

Fatal error: Cannot redeclare tgmpa_load_bulk_installer() (previously declared in /home/discip16/public_html/wp-content/plugins/landing-pages/libraries/class-tgm-plugin-activation.php:2867) in /home/discip16/public_html/wp-content/themes/zerif-lite/class-tgm-plugin-activation.php on line 4398

I am new to Word Press so the WP forum telling me FTP the Z axis of a monkey doesnt really help. I need to post another post on their forum to get help with their help.

Can anyone give me a clue as to what to do with this???

Thanks all.

I'd contact your hosting service and ask them to help you.

basically you need to be able to use FTP
or login to you hosting and edit a file name from the file editor screen

one of your themes and one of your plugins are both using the same name for a function
it can not be used twice like that
so that means there is a conflict between the theme and the plugin

seems to be the zerif theme
and the landing page plugin

you can not use them both together

-- to deactivate the plugin you just need to rename the folder
you can use ftp to change the name easily
or you can
login to your hosting
go to the file manager
go to the folder where you have wordopress installed
go to -- wp-content---
go to -- plugins

then find the landing-pages plugin folder and just rename it
(easiest way is to add a "1" at the end of the name)

then you will be able to login to you wordpress installation

Plugins can make a real mess. If you are new to WP, always check the reviews and see if people have problems with it.
... Also, it's fun to test plugins, and play with them. But do that on a local test installation and not on your real site.

I would recommend just sticking with Wordpress's official plugin suite, JetPack, until you are certain you need something it doesn't provide. It covers most needs really nicely and is well supported.

Jetpack? It can't help you with cache, SEO, or getting rid of that evil no-follow attribute. There are many great tools out there that can help with organizing, user experience etc. Jetpack gives you many functions you probably never need. The biggest problem is that it can slow down your site, not good for user experience or SEO. If you use WP for blogging, fine use it if you want. But if you use WP as a regular CMS, I would never suggest to use this plugin. Better to just dump it as many have.

the problem with wordpress help is that it is open source and people are working with it on many different levels
from the raw beginner, people that are contributing code for the next release, and people that can go in and customize it to do whatever they want

so the good news is that when you are having a bit of a problem
chances are that someone else has already had that same problem
the issue is finding the solution by sorting through all the information that is available
(the search engines are sometimes frustrating cause they return so many results unrelated to your question)

I found the key is in how you word the problem for the search
but of course thats not too much help if you are just starting out with wordpress

good luck

ps. there might not be anything wrong with the theme or the plugin
they are just using the same name of a function--
where current practice is to preface the function so it will not conflict with the function used by other people's them or plugins
this is the one tgmpa_load_bulk_installer()
so if the theme coder would have just put the preface
zerif_tgmpa_load_bulk_installer()
there would have been no problems..

if you contact the plugin or theme developer and let them know about the conflict-
they might be able to very easily change the code and get it working
(this woudl be an easy conflict to fix-- other conflicts can be a nightmare for the developers of the theme or plugin to troubleshoot-- but this one seems very straight forward)
