Well, tell Jesus jokes.

how is that different from appreciating a good joke that is based on race or culture?

It isn't about who appreciates it; it's about who doesn't. Some Christians don't appreciate jokes about Jesus.

If everyone weren't so uptight and defensive things would be a lot funnier.

I agree. People should be able to laugh about themselves. Actually, there are plenty of comedians who do exactly that. They make fun of themselves. What can be offensive is when people make fun of or at the expense of others.

You know, I understand when people don't find a joke funny. But at the same time I think it is their problem, not mine. If they can't handle the joke they don't have to listen or read it.

Well, yeah, but a person can't un-hear a "joke." Your argument is a bit like saying, "Listen to this, but you shouldn't get offended; if you do, though, that's your problem." It made me think of that old question, "Am I my brother's keeper?"

Like I said, the original comment didn't seem like a joke to "me", for the reasons I gave. Irony and satire don't come across easily either.
