Fyi

I just spoke to a friend who got an unlocked 3g

He said he was online and got a message saying he could download a program to use his iphone video camera, and so he did.

It wiped the phone clean and relocked it.

keep in mind that unlocking and jailbreaking are two different things. Unlocking allows you to use the phone on any carrier. Jailbreaking allows you to install and use some cool 3rd party apps. Unlocking is irreversable and very likely to completely screw your iPhone. Jailbreaking is relatively risk free, even if it does mess your phone up you can just use iTunes to restore it to factory default and it will be back to how it was before you jailbroke it. I havent heard of jailbreaking messing a phone up so much that they couldnt restore. Also jailbreaking does not void warranty AFAIK

it does if you bring your phone in for replacement because you fucked it up jailbreaking or unlocking the thing. my daughter has jailbroken and restored her ipod touch numerous times without any ill effects, but still...

it would be too painful for me to be stuck with a very expensive paperweight.
