Here is an interesting egg drop/seaweed soup. The one I make I got out of a very simple Chinese cookbook and is basically egg, silken tofu, seaweed, white pepper and a good chicken broth. I get the organic seaweed which can be quite expensive so I stretch it by adding in Kale. Korean dishes are another source.

Ingredient: seaweed, tofu, dried shrimp, an egg, tomato, green onion, salt, white pepper power, garlic power and special sauce for soup
Add all above ingredient in boiling water to make seaweed tofu soup.
材料:紫菜,豆腐, 虾皮, 鸡蛋, 西红柿, 葱还有汤料。
加入开水煮熟即可。

Thank you Ken for the Chinese/Taiwanese seaweed information :D I guess that if iodized salt is common in those places now, the amount of seaweed in the diet must be rather small.

Also thanks to Bob for the nice example of seaweed in Chinese food - I never had any myself, so I was curious...

You may want to scale down this "serves ten" recipe--at least until you know whether you like the stuff. (No seaweed. Add some if you wish.)

INGREDIENTS
1 can (28 ounces) whole tomatoes cut into small pieces
3 cups water
2 cups beef broth
1 cup lima beans frozen
1 cup baby carrots sliced
1 cup yellow sweet corn frozen
2 tablespoons McCormick®Chopped Onions
1 tablespoon Old Bay Seasoning
1 pound crabmeat

DIRECTIONS
Combine tomatoes water broth lima beans carrots corn onions and OLD BAY in 4-quart saucepan.

Bring to boil on medium heat. Reduce heat to low. Cover and simmer 5 minutes.Add crabmeat. Cover and simmer 10 minutes.
