My latest folly . . .

Postby Alexatron on Mon May 02, 2016 3:11 am

It's been a long time since I've called in here - been lurking a fair bit but not posting or even logging in. However thought I'd share this video and it is sort of relevant to internal martial arts because it's only after practicing Taiiji and Bagua for a few years that I've become robust enough to do this. While I know pro wrestling isn't for everyone its something I've enjoyed watching since childhood. Love it or hate it I don't think any one can dispute that its an arduous activity and so taking up training in it at the age of 51 isn't something to be sniffed at in my opinion. While its been a long and painful journey I finally debuted a couple of weeks ago. It's not by any means a perfect match but the fact I got to the end of it intact is an accomplishment and one I put down to my internal MA training. And yeah I know it probably seems like a waste of time to most of you but I've always treated my body as more of a theme park than a temple :-) I'm the skinny red head btw wrestling under the name Lex Smith. Oh and while I lost this round our next match is a tables match so we'll see how that goes.

Didn't watch it, but speaking as someone only slightly younger, I think it's great you felt confident enough to do it & were robust enough to avoid injury. :)

That was awesome! You don't look your age or move like it.

You'll get her next time :)

One does not simply post on RSF.

Good work jobbing to that heel.
You have nice moves, especially considering it was your debut.
Catch wrestling is legit, even though pro wrestling is scripted.
It takes a lot of control and precision: I once heard a pro wrestler say that he hits his opponent hard in places that don't matter; meaning you DON'T hit people hard in places that DO matter (something I wish my training partner understood better, I'm nursing an injury right now).

Thanks Graham. As I mentioned I attribute a lot of my current mobility down to practicing internal martial arts. About 5 years ago I struggled to climb a flight of stairs due to knee injuries so yeah I've been super pleased with the results.

Thanks Bruce and yeah that's my outlook on life but its amazing how much negativity I've had from friends and family when I took up pro wrestling. I'm starting to get defensive about it now when the subject comes up :-)

Thanks Chud. You obviously know your wrestling both pro and legit. I've recently taken up submission style sport fighting as well and it's actually a lot easier than pro wrestling. I hope your injury heals soon.

For anyone that is interested here is the highlights video from the 2nd show I have performed in. A lot of fun though even more painful than the first.
